T he tourism industry has been obsessed with active holidays for decades. Ho- tels have competed to offer the craziest daytrips, loud- est parties and most adrenaline-fuelled activities. And then came the inevitable global burnout. Exhaustion from screens, constant online availability and chronic in- somnia, the priorities of modern travellers have shifted. Sleep tourism is no longer a passing fad, but has developed into a seri- ous, science-based industry. Elite hotels, primarily those tucked away in destina- tions like the Swiss Alps or Scandinavi- an forests, have completely redefined the concept of a hotel room by transforming it into a sophisticated sleep laboratory. AI beds and circadian lighting „Pillows on the menu“ have long been standard. However, the new level of lux- ury implies rooms with sound insulation at the level of professional music studios. You won’t hear the lift in the hallway or travel this autumn is trips to destinations with only one goal in mind: finally getting some deep, uninterrupted sleep SLEEP TOURISM Factory reset Forget busy sightseeing itineraries, early rises and touring a hundred museums in three days. The absolute global hit in the world of luxury
the wind blowing outside. The main star of these rooms is the bed. Today’s top “sleep retreats” offer beds equipped with artificial intelligence and biometric sen- sors. The mattress monitors your heart rate, breathing and sleep stages through- out the night, adjusting the temperature of different areas of your body automat- ically and in total silence. If the sensors determine that you’re entering REM sleep and your body temperature is rising, the bed will subtly lower the temperature to prevent you from waking up. Light is another key component. These suites don’t have classic switches with sharp white light. They are instead equipped with circadian lighting. This smart system mimics the sun’s natural cycle. These lights automatically lose the blue spectrum in the evening, switching to warm, reddish tones that stimulate the brain to secrete melatonin (the sleep hor- mone). In the morning, you aren’t wok- en by an aggressive alarm, but rather by the light in the room gradually becoming brighter and taking on the colour of the early morning sun, allowing you to wake up completely naturally. Silence therapy These programmes often include an obligatory digital detox (phones are hand- ed in at reception upon arrival). In the af- ternoon, guests consume specially formu- lated herbal infusions instead of alcohol. Dinner includes tryptophan-rich foods, such as nuts, seeds and light plant pro- teins. As you lie in silence, you realise that the most exclusive luxury in a world filled with constant chatter isn’t golden taps in the bathroom, but a guaranteed eight hours of uninterrupted silence.
Turizam spavanja više nije usputni trend, već ozbiljna, naučno utemeljena industrija Sleep tourism is no longer a passing trend, but a serious, science-backed industry
