King's Business - 1960-01

THE KB JUNIOR DEPARTMENT SALUTES Mrs. Mabel Merrill Hope D uring this our fiftieth year, the Junior King’s Business Department would like to honor those who have min istered to the boys and girls during the past fifty years. This month we delight to honor and salute Mrs. Mabel Merrill Hope who wrote the Sunday School lessons for the young readers of the King’s Business before the Junior Department became a permanent feature of the King’s Business magazine. Mrs. Hope graduated from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles in 1915. But, before her graduation Mother Horton, who at that time was head of the Bible women’s group and who was especially gifted in judging character and choosing Christian workers said to her “ I have chosen you to be a ,tj*y**«*y*y****y*y*’*»***y**4*****«,*«.*„*«.^»»*„’.**.**« | JANUARY

Bible Woman,” and immediately she re ceived her first assignment—teaching an Euodia Club for girls in Pasadena, Califor nia. This assignment seemed a big one to Mrs. Hope and she hesitated "to accept it; whereupon Mother Horton quickly opened her Bible to Philippians 4:13 and asked Mrs. Hope to go to her room to read the verses of Scripture and quickly wait before the Lord for her answer. Thus began for Mabel Merrill Hope forty-four years of faithful service as a Bible Woman of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. It was during the early years of her service at the Bible Institute that she found time to write the Sunday School lessons for the children. Mrs. Hope is now 84 years young and still active in the Lord’s service. Each week she teaches three regular adult Bible classes and one Child Evangelism class. Mrs. Hope gives all the glory and praise to the Lord for the gift of good health He has given her and for enabling her to still serve the Lord as she does. May the Lord bless you Mrs. Hope and continue to use you “ unto the praise of His glory.” NEXT MONTH: ANOTHER JUBILEE SALUTE

A YEAR UNTRIED A year untried before me lies, What it shall bring of strange surprise, Or joy, or grief, I cannot tell; But God, my Father, knoweth well. I make it no concern of mine, But leave it all with Love Divine. No ill can come but He can cure, He'll see me through the journey's length, His Word doth all of good insure: For daily need give daily strength. 'Tis thus I fortify my heart, And thus do fear and dread depart. The sun may shed no light by day, Nor stars at night illume my way, My soul shall still know no affright, Since God is all my life and light. Though all the earthly lamps grow dim, He walks in light who walks with Him. O Year untried! — thou hast for me Naught but my Father's eye can see; Nor const thou bring me loss or gain, Or health or sickness, ease or pain, But welcome messenger shall prove From Him whose name to me is Love.
