Andrew’s commitment to learning theory and practical skills was one of the winning points for the judges, as well as the confidence and maturity he brings to the job every day. His story started in a different trade, helping his dad in joinery jobs, during which he acquired valuable skills such as attention to detail, problem solving and working with tools. When the time came to choose a career, Andrew decided to follow his own path with a Level Plumbing Course in South West College (SWC) Omagh and soon was employed by Anderson Mechanical Services. According to his tutor, Andrew is a problem solver and keen to explore solutions, a skill any employer would be glad to have in their team. After achieving third place in a local plumbing competition at SWC, he progressed to the Skill Build NI national final, where Andrew had the opportunity to showcase his skills and knowledge gained during his first year of apprenticeship. Andrew successfully secured the first place in the competition and progressed to the UK national finals. The judges were also more than satisfied with Andrew’s employers’ candid comments about his great enthusiasm and appetite for on-the-job learning. They also commended the pride he takes in his work, making sure the tasks are carried out to the best of his ability.

In a market that now prioritises sustainability, the Altherma Low Capacity R32 Monobloc (4-6-8) was the judges’ choice thanks to its high-flow temperature with an impressive seasonal and COP rating. It uses R32 refrigerant, which has a low Global Warning Potential (GWP). For those rare summer days, there is also a reversible option for cooling. The panel was also blown away by the pump’s smart functionalities and intuitive control solutions. Homeowners can control the heating system from home or remotely using an app or a wired room thermostat. The pump was also considered a great choice from an aesthetic point of view, as it is compact enough to fit in any garden.
