The judges’ decision came down to the proactive and efficient way Hanna Mechanical Services dealt with the challenges and changes that emerged during the complete refurbishment of the Northern Ireland Audit Office. The four-storey building was completely gutted to allow for the installation of mechanical services, including ventilation, heating systems, VRF air conditioning systems and sanitary ware. The team had to get creative to deal with the minimum ceiling void depths presented by the existing building’s fabric. One of the winning points was how the company worked collaboratively with the main and electrical contractors to provide technical support and quality workmanship.
The judges classified the refurbishment of this building as a sympathetic install, providing an up-to-date mechanical installation utilising existing equipment to their advantage. The clever logistics of this project also earned extra points from the judging panel, as all new installations had to be phased in while the building was still fully functioning with the old services. Limited access and the unprecedented disruption of the Covid pandemic all presented hurdles. However, McCorley’s admirable track record for delivering projects to a high standard, on time and within budget is forged out of the company’s unwavering commitment to delivering outstanding quality jobs and which was recognised by this award.
