pian to Christ. All Christians should be the salt of the earth, bringing the un saved to Christ.

Objects: A quart jar two thirds full of water, an egg, a small quantity of black ink, one half cup of red gasoline (furniture polish may be used), and one half cup of table salt. Lesson: This jar of water is like the world before sin entered. Adam and Eve were innocent until they ate of the for bidden fruit and became sinful beings. Every one is born with a sinful nature because he is a descendant of Adam. We will put a few drops of this ink in the water, showing how sin made the world unclean.

Objects: A yardstick, a piece of string, a piece of bread, a metal man and a fishbowl filled with inked water. (Cut the yardstick in two pieces, ap proximately 11 and 25 inches long. Fasten the shorter end to the long one, with a small nail, forming a cross. Fasten the string to the end of the yardstick which represents a fishing pole. Fasten the man to the other end of the string. Put the piece of bread on the string just above the metal man. Have the crossbar of the cross parallel with the upright. Submerge the man in the water, allowing the bread to float on the surface of the water.) Lesson: Would you boys and girls like to go fishing with me this morning? I brought everything along which we will need—a pole, line, bait, our own pond and even something to catch. Isn’t this a strange pole? First of all it is. red, but notice also that part of it moves to form a cross. I am reminded that Christ said to His disciples, “ Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). In order that God might reach down to men and save them from their sin, Christ had to die on the cross. This string speaks to us of the grace of God, sending the Lord down to earth to reach us in our sinful state.

We will let this egg represent the person in the sinful world. Drop it into the water, and it sinks to the bottom. Unless the power of God keeps boys and girls, they will sink in sin. This red fluid which I am pouring into the jar represents the blood of Christ which cleanses from all sin. “Without shedding of blood is no re mission,” we read in God’s Word. It has been God’s plan in all ages to cleanse from sin by blood. Before Jesus came and died, the blood of a lamb or of some other animal was used. Cain’s of fering was refused because he did not bring a lamb whose blood could be shed for-his sin. The egg which stands for an unsaved person is at the bottom of the jar. How can we get it to the top where the red is? I have here in my hand a cup of salt. Jesus said to His disciples: “Ye are the salt of the earth.” Notice what happens when I put the salt, which represents Christians, into the glass. (Stir with the spoon.) The salt causes the egg to rise up to the red. God wants you and me to bring others to Christ. This is what Philip did for Nathanael in our lesson this morning. Philip invited Nathanael to come to Christ, saying: “ Come and see.” Andrew brought Peter to Christ. It was Philip, the evangelist, who brought the Ethio- D E C E M B E R , 1 9 5 1

Christ said that He was the Bread of Life, and that He would draw all men to Him. This black water reminds me of the sinful state of man. Only the cross of Christ and the grace of God can lift man from his awful sinful state. (Pull the man out of the water.) We too can hold forth the cross of Christ and following Him, become fish ers of men.
