Following a video which showcased some key themes regarding the future of payroll, Jason opened the Annual Conference and Exhibition, welcoming delegates: “where we come together to educate and learn, collaborate with others in the industry and celebrate the profession”.
Special thanks were extended to the CIPP’s overseas guests for attending: American Payroll Association, Canadian Payroll Association and the Irish Payroll Association.
Jason looked back over the past twelve months since the last conference, and mentioned the graduation ceremony 2018, the Chartered members dinners, launch of The Compact Payroll Reference Book , the national forums, Scottish National Conference and Exhibition, and National Payroll Week 2019. NPW 2019 was the most successful to date, with the Institute hosting and supporting several events across the UK. For the first time ever, #NPW19 trended on Twitter and was mentioned on BBC Radio 2 at the start of the week. The CIPP worked with other membership bodies and publications to raise the profile. Discussing Chartered membership, Jason announced that the CIPP will be introducing an experience route to obtain this prestigious status, observing: “It’s important to recognise those members who are ‘qualified’ through their experience within the profession, but also to ensure that we do not devalue the importance of qualifications within payroll now. We are seeking support from members to develop this route.” Jason informed delegates that the Institute’s AGM, being held at the Hilton London, Bankside on 5 December. This is an important event. It is members’ opportunity to approve the CIPP’s financial accounts for the period 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 and to vote for board representatives. Jason urged members to read the profiles of the seven board candidates and vote.
Jason concluded by mentioning that throughout 2020 the CIPP will celebrate forty years since inception of the Association of Payroll and Superannuation Administrators (APSA).
