A Note from Don Lough, Jr. In Philippians 1:6, we are reminded that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” What a comfort to know that God is still at work – in hearts, in families, and in ministries around the world. At Word of Life, we continue to see how the Lord uses faithful prayer, generous partnerships, and willing service to transform lives. Through camps, youth ministries, Bible Institutes, and global outreach, young people are hearing the gospel, growing in God’s Word, and taking their next steps with Jesus. In this issue of The Word of Life Experience , you’ll find stories that reflect that same work – God moving through ordinary people in extraordinary ways. My prayer is that you are encouraged to stay the course and reminded of the joy that comes when we serve together for the sake of the gospel.

The Word of Life Experience

The Gospel Taking Root in the 10/40 Window God at Work in Vietnam

The 10/40 Window is often described as the most difficult place in the world to reach with the gospel. Stretching across North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, it is home to billions of people who have little to no access to the message of Jesus. Most Vietnamese are influenced by folk traditions, Buddhism, or other worldviews with little exposure to the life-changing message of Christ.

By human standards, these places can feel unreachable. But God has never been limited by geography, access, or circumstance.

4

In Vietnam, God is at work among young people through faithful servants like Tuan and Rose, missionaries with Word of Life, who are committed to reaching the next generation with the gospel. Through skits, English camps in remote regions, and youth retreats, they create opportunities for students to hear the truth of Christ – often for the very first time.

One of those students was Huong.

Huong

5

The Word of Life Experience

Huong's story

At seventeen, Huong had never attended a Chris- tian camp. When a local volunteer invited her to a Word of Life youth camp, she eagerly wanted to go. Tuan and Rose were able to provide her with a full scholarship – but Huong still faced one remaining obstacle: transportation. She needed money to travel, and she didn’t have it.

He reaches hearts through faithful people, simple obedience, and sometimes even through a teenager willing to gather snails so she can hear the gospel.

So Huong went to the mountain streams near her home.

For three days, she waded into the water, harvesting snails by hand. Each day, she carried them down to sell, earning just $1.20 per kilo- gram – enough, eventually, to cover her travel expenses.

On the very first night of camp, Huong gave her life to Christ.

Stories like hers continue to unfold in Vietnam. One student who identified as an atheist asked for prayer after witnessing the work God was doing in the lives of others. Another seven- teen-year-old girl, attending camp for a second time, shared: “At my first Word of Life camp, I asked the Lord to forgive my sins and give me eternal life. At this second camp, I want to give my life to serve Him. I want to be a missionary someday.” As Word of Life Vietnam looks ahead, Tuan and Rose are praying for three additional full-time team members to join the ministry and help expand its reach. Their vision echoes the convic- tion of Word of Life founder Jack Wyrtzen: “It is the responsibility of every generation to reach their generation for Christ.” There is nowhere in the world that God cannot reach. He reaches hearts through faithful people, simple obedience, and sometimes even through a teenager willing to gather snails so she can hear the gospel.

The Word of Life Vietnam team hosting evangelistic outreach events

Camp Scholarships Huong’s story is powerful – but it is not unique.

Give Now:

Across Vietnam, there are students just like her who want to attend camp, who are curious about Jesus, and who are one invitation away from hearing the gospel for the first time. For many of them, the barrier is not willingness – it is cost.

This is where camp scholarships matter.

When you give toward camp scholarships, you are helping young people hear the gospel, respond to Christ, and begin a journey of faith that can shape their future and influence others for generations to come.

Darcy Smith ’89 lives in Tennessee, where she owns and operates Mountain View Pet Care, a business that allows her to combine care, responsibility, and compassion in her daily work. She attends Boones Creek Christian Church in nearby Johnson City. 1990s Mike Moser ’91 lives in Oregon, where he serves as project director at Catalyst Partnerships NW, a nonprofit providing critical home repairs for low-income homeowners across the Portland metro area. After an earlier season in retail management, Mike spent several years in ministry leadership at the Portland Rescue Mission, working with men facing addiction and homelessness. His work continues to blend operations, discipleship, and hands- on service. Mike and his wife, Beth, are both active in ministry and attend Grace Chapel in Wilsonville, Oregon. They have one adult son, Jaden (22). Laurie (Shoemaker ’91 ’92) Tilson and her husband, Bill, live in western New York and are active members of Wheatland Community Church. Laurie serves as the Care Team Coordinator and teaches Awana TNT, while she and Bill also volunteer with Open Door Mission, where Bill often preaches. They have three grown children, two married. Reflecting on her time at Word of Life Bible Institute, Laurie shared a few nostalgic memories: “Walking from Asia Dorm to Town Hall at the Ranch for classes in the winter – and the one pay phone we had per floor!” Becky (Moore ’93) Banks wears many hats in both life and ministry – she is a professional organizer, homeschool mom, and mental health coach, combining her gifts for structure, care, and encouragement to serve others well. She and her husband, Bill, live in New Jersey and attend Landmark Church in nearby Ocean City. They have two children, Brayden and Brianna. At church, Becky serves on the Care Team as a women’s mentor and also on the Hospitality Team. They are the proud parents of two adult children – Nolan (32) and Lisa (28). BJ continues his ministry as an evangelist, sharing the gospel and encouraging believers wherever the Lord leads. John Hales ’84 and his wife, Christina, make their home in North Carolina, where they share a deep commitment to serving the Lord together – “24 hours a day,” as John describes it. Though he is now disabled, John continues to live out a life of devotion and gratitude for God’s faithfulness. Beth (Fuller ’84) Dawson retired in 2020 after many years of faithful service at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, Florida. She and her husband, Steve, now live in Georgia, where they attend Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Beth stays involved through the church choir and enjoys time with her growing family, including five grandchildren. Reflecting on her time at Word of Life Bible Institute, Beth recalls her joy in traveling on the Genesis and Revelation tours and, with a smile, adds one memorable word to describe that year: “Collisions.” James Johnson ’88 resides in Texas with his wife, Andrea, and their 15-year-old daughter, Ella. After graduating from Word of Life Bible Institute, James dedicated time to evangelism in Texas and missionary work in India. For the past 23 years, he has been an IT engineer and business analyst at Texas Instruments. Additionally, for two decades, he has served part time with Campus Crusade for Christ.

with her husband, Paul, in sunny California. They have three adult children: Emily (22) and Angel Sanchez (29) – with grandson Roman (1); Ethan ’25 (21) and Emma ’25 (18), both students last year at the Word of Life Bible Institute – Florida Campus. They attend Faith Bible Church, where Gina has previously served in children’s, junior high, and high school ministries. She fondly remembers her time at Word of Life Bible Institute for its friendships and spiritual growth, foundations that have shaped her life and ministry ever since. Recently, Gina began a creative and encouraging outreach she didn’t even realize was becoming a ministry at first:

“I started sending cards of encouragement to college students – mostly WOLBI

students – and added fun stickers to the cards. It began with about 10 and now is up to 50+.” What began as a small act of kindness has grown into a ministry of encouragement – reminding others that God often multiplies the simplest gestures of love. Jeffrey Luchun ’95 serves as senior pastor at Mt. Hope Congregational Church in Livonia, Michigan, where he is passionate about revitalizing the church for the glory of God. He and his wife, Melinda, are raising their three sons – Kenan (24), Elam (11), and Judah (9) – and remain deeply committed to serving their local community and encouraging believers to grow in their walk with Christ. Bethany (Aspin ’98) Gibbs and her husband, Stuart, make their home in Virginia with their two children, Julianne (17) and Jackson (14). She works with World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization committed to meeting physical and spiritual needs around the world.

“Looking back, that year was one of the best of my life – aside from meeting my wife.

Life in Portugal Dorm was unforget- table, surrounded by brothers who shaped my faith and my future. It’s where I met Scott Woods; six months in India, five years working together in Nacogdoches, and a lifetime of stories. I still think about the real Council Hall, the passion for the Great Commission that filled the air, and the beauty of Schroon Lake – the mist curling off the water and the trees ablaze with color.” – James Johnson ’88

Looking back on her time at Word of Life Bible Institute, Bethany shared,

“Traveling with the Colle- gians was such a sweet experience and still one of my best memories from my time at Word of Life Bible Institute.” – Bethany Gibbs ’98

15 The Word of Life Experience

At Word of Life, Sports Are Never Just Sports

At Word of Life, athletics are about far more than competition. Every practice, every game, and every conversation becomes an opportunity to invest in our student-athletes as people – not just players. At the same time, competitions also open doors to serve and reach opposing teams. While effort and excellence matter, the ultimate goal is discipleship and gospel impact.

Through sports ministry, we focus on shaping character, cultivating spiritual habits, and helping students remain connected to the local church and the Word of God. Coaches and staff intentionally build relationships that create space for meaningful conversations about faith, purpose, and what it means to follow Christ in every area of life.

Some of the most impactful ministry happens after the whistle blows. Whether through team devotionals, postgame conversations with opposing players, or one-on-one mentorship, these moments remind students that they are seen, known, and called to live for Christ beyond the arena.

16

This fall, across all athletic teams and events, the gospel was clearly shared with 1,396 people – including Word of Life student-athletes, opposing teams, and prospective students. By God’s grace, 24 individuals made decisions to trust Christ. Fall 2025 Athletics Gospel Impact

"After a game, a young man from the opposing school came to me because of what he said he saw in our team – love, respect, joy, and good sportsmanship. I told him it was the love of Jesus. By the end of our conversation, he gave his life to Christ as his Savior. Praise God! That same day, our team circled around a young woman who was interested in Word of Life Bible Institute and prayed for God’s direction in her life. It was an awesome day.

These moments often took place in locker rooms, on sidelines, during team meals, or in personal conversations after games. Many opportunities also came through interactions with opposing teams, where coaches and players intentionally shared Christ and built relationships that extended beyond a single competition. Follow-up is a vital part of this ministry. When someone trusts Christ, a member of our team connects with them personally, gathers contact information, and helps guide them toward next steps in their faith. We regularly recommend trusted

local churches near the schools we compete against and work to connect new believers with pastors in those areas. Through collaboration with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, players are encouraged to connect with FCA Huddles on their campuses – often a welcoming environment for students who are new to faith. By partnering with FCA missionaries and local church leaders, our prayer is that these students will grow in their relationship with Christ and become catalysts for evangelism and discipleship in their own communities.

A few seasons ago, I met a new opposing coach who told me he was a Christian but had not been serious about his faith. I encouraged him to fall in love with Jesus again through Bible reading, prayer, and church involvement. The next season, he greeted me with a hug and said, ‘I am not the same man you talked to last year. I have gotten serious about my relationship with Jesus.’ I am honored to represent Christ through the game.”

Months later, she told us she had been researching Christianity and said, ‘I cannot understand how someone can be saved without having to do anything. Please explain your gospel to me.’ We were able to clearly explain Jesus’ sacrifice and connect her with resources to continue learning.

The Power of Encouragement

"Attending the Bible Institute has made all the difference in my life. I don’t think I would be following Him as closely

today – or even have the amount of knowledge and understanding of the Bible – if I didn’t spend two years of my life studying it."

Brittany (Good '14, '15) Bracelin

These words are from someone who almost didn’t attend the Bible

Institute until an alumnus, her dad, encouraged her.

As a high school senior from a small town in Pennsylvania, Brittany (Good) Bracelin faced a tough decision. Her parents were alumni, and she had always heard great things about Word of Life Bible Institute. But when it was her turn to choose a college path, doubt crept in. She didn’t like the idea of being far from home, and she worried that attending the Bible Institute would delay her progress in earning her bachelor’s degree. It felt risky, uncertain, like too big of a step.

f t

But her dad saw something she couldn’t yet see.

Brittany with Tricia (Hoganson '13, '14) Childs during her first year

After several conversations, he did something simple. He wrote her a letter – not one filled with pressure or expectations but one full of his heart. He reminded her that she would never regret spending even one year focused on studying God’s Word. He shared what he saw in her ever since she was a little girl and how deeply he believed God could use her life. That letter stopped her in her tracks. It opened her heart to the possibility that God might be inviting her into something more.

The Alumni Encouragement Award exists to create moments just like this. Not only do you have so much influence, but you also have $750 to give away to as many prospective students as you want! You remember what God did during your time at the Word of Life Bible Institute – the friendships, the growth, the clarity that came through His Word.

So Brittany said yes.

She attended the Bible Institute – and loved it. One year turned into two. After graduating from the two-year program in 2015, she continued to a two-year internship with Word of Life while earning her bachelor’s degree online at a 50% tuition discount. The thing she feared would delay her didn’t delay her at all. Instead, it became an affordable, life-shaping investment – one that built a strong foundation of faith for the rest of her life. That’s the power of encouragement at the right moment.

Now you can help create that opportunity for someone else.

We are praising God as we look ahead to our first summer camp season at Jenness Park, a remarkable new chapter in Word of Life’s camp ministry. Located in the beautiful foothills of Cold Springs, California, Jenness Park represents an exciting expansion of our mission to reach students with the gospel on the West Coast – a region we have long prayed God would open for summer camp ministry. Situated in an area where many young people have limited exposure to biblical truth, each week combines unforgettable activities with intentional discipleship, creating space for students to encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and take meaningful next steps that extend far beyond the summer.

Intentional discipleship – through mentoring, everyday conversations, and hands-on ministry experiences – has helped students grow in confidence and obedience to Christ. While not every gospel conversation immediately leads to a decision, faithful presence and persistent prayer are planting seeds that promise lasting spiritual growth.

Partnering with longtime ministry friends, they

presented 12 gospel-centered presentations. Approximately 2,800 people were reached, and 790 individuals made decisions to trust Christ. Local churches are now actively following up with these new believers, continuing the work of discipleship and demonstrating the lasting impact of faithful gospel outreach in the region.

Philippines: Equipping Churches to Reach Their Communities Word of Life Philippines continues to see momentum through leadership training and church partnerships. Recent ministry efforts brought together youth leaders from dozens of churches for worship, teaching, and gospel-centered training. In addition, evangelistic sports outreach and collaboration with Child Evangelism Fellowship helped equip hundreds of pastors and volunteers with tools to share the gospel with children and families. These efforts are strengthening local churches and expanding gospel impact across communities.

The Most Procrastinated Decision

Are you planning for your financial future? Estate planning is one of the most commonly delayed decisions. Without an up-to-date will and estate plan, your family and assets may be left unprotected and vulnerable to unnecessary taxes, costs, and delays. A proper estate plan allows you to: • Provide for the financial and guardianship needs of your dependents • Transfer your estate efficiently and with minimal cost or delay • Direct assets to the people and ministries that matter most to you To help you take this important step, Word of Life partners with PhilanthroCorp, a national will and estate planning firm, to provide free, confidential planning services to our supporters. PhilanthroCorp does not sell insurance or commission- based products. They help you develop a personalized plan based on your wishes and values, with all legal documents prepared by your own attorney. Your only cost is your attorney’s legal fees. There is no obligation, and all information is kept strictly confidential. Take the next step today. Visit wol.is/philanthrocorp26 to learn more and complete the contact form, or call:
