Somewhere from a galaxy fanclub, not very far far away, the Star Wars gang from the 501 st Capital City Garrison of Ottawa are headed for Clarence Creek. These cos- playing heroes are going to be at ShackS- tock to join the fight against ovarian cancer. «They call themselves ‘The Bad GuysWho Do Good’,» said a smiling Lyne Shackleton. The Second Annual ShackStock Music Festival goes on-stage Saturday, Aug. 22, in Clarence Creek. Shackleton, one of the main organizers and co-founders of the family-friendly musical fundraising event, promises 12 hours of almost non-stop live music featuring local and regional artists like theMaple Hill bluegrass band fromOttawa, along with My Favourite Tragedy rocking the stage from Rockland, and Orléans folk- country singer Kristine St-Pierre. Along with the music, there are all sorts of activities for children, including the visit from themembers of the 501 st Garrison, and a lineup of DC and Marvel superheroes, plus face painting and assorted games and things. For adults, there are also arts and crafts vendors to visit and a concession area to check out catering to everyone’s taste in food and drink. Last year’s inaugural ShackStock Festival raised more the $3000 for Ovarian Cancer Canada to help fund research on early detec- tion and treatment of the disease. Shackleton and other concert organizers hope to either match or beat last year’s fundraising total. The beat goes on from 11:30 a.m. to 11

They may look like the bad guys but these cosplaying members of the 501 st Capital City Garrison of Ottawa look forward to a warm welcome from Lyne Shackleton and everyone else at ShackStock this weekend, as they lend their blasters, warclubs, and lightsabres, and even the Force if necessary, to help win the fight against ovarian cancer.
