For this reason, news has become the most common form, among all media products, that allows people, inside and outside the media community, to follow and understand developments at various levels, locally, regionally and globally. However, news coverage is not only a simple tool used by journalists to capture, document and report what happens around us, since the factors interfering with, and affecting news production are numerous and complex. Sociopolitical, cultural and economic factors play an important role in shaping this process and the way in which reality is depicted and reported to us. This study focuses on Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya’s news coverage of the 2011 Egyptian revolution. Content analysis methodology is used to examine and compare the content of the main news bulletins on both channels over a period of one year, from January 2011 to January 2012.
