Al-Haj Title: The Effectiveness of Producing Television Talk Shows in Constructing Political Media Discourse: Applied Study to the Blue Nile’s ‘So the Picture is Complete’ and Al Jazeera’s ‘the Opposite Direction’ Institution: Sudan University of Science and Technology Country: Sudan Date: 2018 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study examines the effectiveness of Talk shows of the Sudanese Blue Nile and Al Jazeera channels in building a political media discourse in accordance with professional, artistic and technical standards. The study aims to determine the extent to which those responsible for producing talk shows and debate programs in these two channels are committed to professional standards, especially when dealing with political content. The study focuses on the role of the communicator or contact person during the production process of talk shows in the two channels and the interactions of viewers. The research employed a comparative analytical methodology and used a questionnaire to collect data and content analysis to analyze it. The research findings show that the talk shows on both channels enjoy a high rate of viewership reaching 90.8% on Al Jazeera and 87.4% on Blue Nile TV respectively. The study also found that 100% of the topics of ‘the Opposite Direction’ were political, while in ‘So the picture is complete’ they were 60% political. The Blue Nile’s presenter mainly organizes the discussion, while Al Jazeera’s presenter mainly activate the debate.
