The researcher used the content analysis method to analyze the content of the two programs: “Al-Mashhad Al-Iraqi” on Al Jazeera and “Min Al-Iraq” on Al-Arabiya. These two programs were deliberately chosen to reveal the main themes that each channel sought to emphasize in the context of showing the image of Iraq. The study sample consisted of 104 episodes, 52 from each of the studied programs during 2007. The study concluded with a set of findings, including the following: Both Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya showed great interest in dealing with events in Iraq. However, the percentage of interest differed between the two channels, as did the quality of guests and the viewpoints expressed in these programs. The study also found that the image of Iraq presented by Al Jazeera was more negative compared to that presented by Al Arabiya. The study recommended that Iraqi media institutions present the true and positive image of the Iraqi reality through a national discourse far from sectarian, factional and partisan biases.
