As the snow finally recedes, area fields are being covered by massive flocks of snow geese. The birds and Canada geese are providing free spectacular air shows as they continue their spring migration.

FINCH | People can help save turtles by letting their fingers do the voting on behalf of a South Nation Conservation initiative. South Nation Conservation has been awarded $10,000 in funding from Shell Canada through its social investment program called Fuelling Change. Howev- er, this sum, awarded for a turtle protec- tion plan, could grow to $50,000 provid- ed the public throws its support behind the SNC’s campaign. The voting period is open between now and April 30, 2013. Full details are on http://fuellingchange. For additional information and a direct link to the voting site, visit www.nation. on.ca. Turtles need your votes While everyone welcomes the arrival of spring, people are reminded to not throw caution to the wind. As the snow melts, dried grass and twigs from the previous summer are uncovered and can be highly flammable. Some might think that burn- ing last year’s remnants is the easiest way to clean up for spring. The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police detachment wishes to remind everyone to consult lo- cal municipal by-laws before burning any- thing. Those who do decide to light fires, for spring cleaning, can be held account- able for damages caused by fires that get out of control. Consequences can range from a fine (depending on the municipal- ity) to a criminal charge. Most importantly, fires can cause injury or even death.
