Drop Down Day in Year 7 was a brilliant experience for everyone! Throughout the day we concocted scrumptious smoothies in food-tech, composed fun jingles in music, delivered persuasive (and somewhat hilarious) pitches in drama and designed beautiful packaging in DT graphics. The day began vibrantly, in Mrs Ahmed’s kitchen, where we prepared fruits for our smoothies, blitzed them till very smooth and of course, we finally taste tested them! They were delicious! Here, we learnt how to be safe in the kitchen, take responsibility for your workspace, and keep it clean. Year 7 Drop Down Day - Smoothies

We then headed over to the music block, where Miss Lewis taught us all about jingles and various ways we can create memorable tunes! We spent about 20 minutes writing (rather unique) lyrics for our jingles, then composed catchy melodies, that we played on keys, drums and even instruments we had never used before! This taught us to be creative in music and work together.

After music, we journeyed to graphics, where we designed bright and eye-catching packaging for the containers of our smoothies. We learnt about different styles of typography, aesthetic palettes and ways to depict your brand’s message visually.

Finally, the day ended on a high. We attended an extremely fun drama class with Miss Clarke, who taught us how to pitch our brands, while being factual and engaging! We learnt how to be articulate all while performing in an advert that people can connect with. Overall, the day was a complete success that taught us important skills, e.g: public speaking and teamwork all while having heaps of fun with our friends!
