the king, was to hobnob with a crowd of slum-dwellers in a low-class public-house. You and I have not only been made chil dren of God, but brought to the dignity and splendor of princes, that day by day we might enter into and enjoy the priv ileges of such a position. Am I enjoying my sonship day by day? Am I entering into my inheritance in Christ by simple faith? Do I so live that the Lord Jesus can really feel that His death for me was worth while?— R eginald W a llis . "Hear the W ord o f the Lord, y e chil dren o f Israel: [or the Lord hath a con troversy with the inhabitants o f the land" (Hosea 4 :1 ). It may be that there is something which comes between us and God, something which is robbing us of our power, some thing which is depriving us of our joy, something which somehow has made prayer and His Word less enjoyable. Something has come between us and our Lord, and He has a controversy with us about it. Until that controversy is settled in the only way in which it can be satis factorily settled by a complete abandon ment to God, there can be no progress in the Christian life.—W . H. A ldis . APRIL 25 Renewing the Mind "And be not conformed to this world: but be y e transformed by the renewing o f your mind, that y e may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God" (Rom. 12:1). Has it been my delight to do God’s will, or have I found His commandments grievous? Has God’s law been the stan dard of my life, and have I yielded to it instant and glad obedience? Or has my life been under the control of my own will, and have I followed my own way? Have I found God’s will for me to be “good and acceptable and perfect,’’ or has it been irksome and inconvenient? — W . G raham S croggie . More of Thyself, O show me hour by hour, More of Thy glory, O my God and Lord! More of Thyself, in all Thy grace and power: More of Thy love and truth, Incarnate Word. — H o ra tiu s B onar . APRIL 26 Stilling Every Fear "The Egyptians whom y e have seen to day, y e shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace” (Ex. 14:13, 14). When one looks into the quiet eyes of Him that sitteth upon the throne, the trem ors of the spirit are stilled. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is but a noise: and the valley of the shadow of death is tuneful with songs of praise. Storms may rage beneath our feet, but the sky above is blue. W e take our station with Christ in heavenly places: we dwell in the sabbath of God. — D avid M . M c I n tyre . APRIL 24 God’s Controversy
