BEGINNING TO INTERMEDIATE CERAMICS: ON AND OFF THE WHEEL Come and get your hands dirty in this fun introduction to clay. This 10-week class will provide hands-on instruction covering the fundamentals of wheel-throwing: centering, opening, pulling, and shaping. You will learn decorating techniques to make your pieces shine including carving, stamping, and glazing. We will also jump off the wheel and explore a few simple hand-building techniques to add variation and fully encompass the ceramics experience. Join the amazing world of ceramics - the sky's the limit. Fee includes firing and glazes. No class 5/5.. Anika will throw, alter, and build familiar forms using wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, and show you how to combine the two for more complex shapes! In this class, we’ll focus on plates, platters, and baskets. Enhance your surfaces using slip and underglaze transfers and learn to create sets of items that stack and fit comfortably together in your cabinets. Demonstrations will begin promptly 15 minutes after the start of class, and range in complexity to take up approximately 30 minutes. Recommended for students

This class is accessible for beginners and still challenging for continuing and intermediate throwers. Work with your instructor to increase your skill level in throwing as well learn how to decorate your pieces using slips, stains, and more! Fee includes firing and glazes. No class 5/5. ELECTRIC KILNS 101 In this 4-hour comprehensive workshop, Anika will walk through the basics of loading and firing an electric kiln! We will learn about firing bisque and glaze kilns, discuss efficient stacking and loading of pottery, and how to clean and maintain your kiln equipment. We’ll also get a peek into the kiln controller box, and Anika will walk through the common parts and repairs that are easy and approachable without a kiln tech. Get ready to take notes, ask questions, and learn how to fire your own kilns! All levels are welcome, no prior kiln experience is necessary. CERAMICS CLASS INFORMATION:

CLASS FEES INCLUDE FIRING FEES. Please remember that MAC does not have the space to allow for production pottery. Extra firing fees will be assessed if kiln space is being overused. Students are responsible for purchasing their own clay and tools unless otherwise noted. ORDERS FOR SUPPLIES will be taken at the first class and must be accompanied by a check. Some clay is also available for purchase at Moshier. OPEN STUDIO: Students enrolling in classes marked by pottery vase are encouraged to use MAC’s free open studio times. These times can be used while the class you are enrolled in is in session. Please see the most current student manual for open studio times. This manual will be available to you on the first day of class.
