For Vacation Schools A new feature in vacation Bible -school material is a book for nursery age chil dren featuring “ see, hear, touch, smell” activities. This new book opens up the world of creation in a simple understand able way for the three and four-year-old child through the five major senses. Sup plementing the book are records of the Bible stories in words and music. Evangelist MacArthur Dr. John F. MacArthur has resigned his pastorate at the Hollywood Fountain Avenue Baptist Church to give full time to evangelistic work. The four years of MacArthur’s pastorate resulted in nearly a thousand people uniting with the church and an extensive building pro gram being inaugurated. “ Because social and spiritual conditions today demand a great resurgence of evangelism, I feel that I should accept the call of God and reenter this field of special service.” Most Useful Textbook An award of $1,000 in cash for the most useful Christian textbook to be used in Bible institutes, Christian col leges and seminaries has just been an nounced by the Moody Press of Chicago. Those who care to write may choose any field and should submit their manuscripts to the Contest Editors, Moody Press, 820 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, 111. Subway Scriptures A new project of the New York Bible Society is the placing of Scripture texts in the subway stations of New York City where they may be seen by an average of 65,000,000,000 riders each month. The texts are 30x46" and selec tions for the first three months were John 3:16; Romans 6:23; and Isaiah 55:7. Letter Evangelism Club A Church of the Brethren pastor, Rev. James H. Morris of Gotha, Fla., has sug gested a letter-of-the-month-club for the conversion of non-Christians. Mr. Morris reports that the plan has already been used successfully and consists of writing one letter each month to some person who is not a Christian, asking him to accept Christ as his Saviour. It is sug gested that all persons willing to join write in to Rev. James H. Morris. Bible Society At the 142nd Annual Meeting of the New York Bible Society, it was reported that during 1951 there were distributed through the city a total of nearly a mil lion Bibles, Testaments and Scripture portions. The work of this Society centers about the harbor and land area of New York City including immigra tion, marine, hotel, hospital, blind, Negro, Jew and foreign. As an evidence of the cosmopolitan character of the population, Scriptures are required in eighty-seven different languages. M A R C H , 1 9 5 2
