the event would help that become a reality. “All those who did come through the doors remarked on how impressed they were with the event and enjoyed the great variety of trees available for viewing,” she said. “We are very grateful for the generosity of the local merchants, organizations and individuals who helped to make our event a huge success.” About 200 people attended the event in person over the weekend, while others examined the trees on social media. Non-pe- rishable items and $500 was also raised for the Good Neighbours Food Bank. Chartrand said the event could return next year, and hoped for even more patrons after COVID restrictions were eased. “Maybe we’ll do it again next year but it will have to be on another surface, as we will definitely be curling this time next year,” she said.

Curling was replaced with Christmas trees in Russell this month as the local club raised money to stay afloat through the pandemic. The Russell Curling Club showcased, then auctioned, more than 40 miniatures Christmas trees with a variety of different themes between Friday, December 4 and Sunday, December 6. The entries ranged from the traditional to the contemporary, including a 2020-appropriate tree made entirely out of toilet paper. The challenges of this year were part of the reason for the event. The club hoped to reopen in fall next year after remaining closed for the 2020 season. President Mary Chartrand said the $9500 raised during
