3 EASY POOL EXERCISES

As the weather continues to get warmer, you might rather head to the pool instead of the gym. Thankfully, you can get a good workout at the pool, and you don’t even need to dedicate time specifically for swimming. You can do plenty of exercises in the pool that will leave your body feeling refreshed. Aquatic training is a fantastic option if you want to relieve joint pain or just shake up your regular exercise routine. If you’re interested in exercising in the water but don’t know where to begin, give these exercises a try. WALKING It’s no secret that water offers resistance. If you try walking in a pool, it’s going to be much more difficult than if you were walking on land. Walking in the pool provides a great low-impact workout and can be incredibly beneficial for people with arthritis. You can walk back and forth on the shallow end of the pool or use a flotation device and make the walking motion in the deep end.

Amp up this workout by going faster, longer, or by adding extra resistance.

LEG SWINGS To do this exercise, you’ll need to stand in the water at the edge of the pool. Grab the edge with both hands and swing your legs, one at a time, from side to side in a pendulum motion. Water adds extra resistance to this exercise, so it helps to strengthen and tone your legs. Ensure that your core stays still and your legs do all of the movement to maximize results. JUMPING JACKS Jumping jacks are a great way to get your heart rate up, but they become even more beneficial when done in the water. The resistance of the water makes them much more difficult than on land which, in turn, increases your calorie burn. This exercise is relatively high impact on land, but the buoyancy of water actually supports your joints when done in a pool.
