60s party: dancing for the Sports Dome

unteered themselves to perform 60s music throughout the night and were actually the masterminds behind the idea for this fund- raiser.The Embrun Community Centre was also decorated for the occasion and more than half of the dancing crowd wore 60’s costumes and garb. About 100 people from the community came out to help with this cause and over ten corporate tables present; namely, Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Orthomedix, Team Beauchamp, BNI aux Quat’ Coins, Cassel- man Cement, Colliers, Eric Landriault, Jean Martel, LAP Enterprises, Mireille Laviolette, Phil Roy and the Co-Operators (Phil Ryan).
Hippie costumes, flower-power decora- tions and live 60s music: all the essentials for a successful 1960 themed dance party! The event, which took place on Saturday September 16 at the Embrun Community Center, was held as a fundraiser for the Rus- sell Township Sports Dome that is well under construction and almost completed. Led by the official event sponsor Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., over $9500 was raised for the Dome. The local band Five Old Guys (FOG) vol-

Des costumes hippies, des décorations et de la musique des années 1960 : tels sont les éléments essentiels pour une soirée de danse réussie! L’évènement, qui a eu lieu le samedi 16 septembre au Centre communautaire d’Embrun, a été organisé en guise de collecte de fonds pour le dôme sportif de Russell, dont la construction est presque terminée. Sports Dome Fundraising and event Chair Doug Anthony is hopeful that the goal of rais- ing in between $ 400 000 and $ 500 000 will be realistic by the time of the opening of the dome, having already raised approximately $ 300 000. “To raise $ 300 000 in a town of 15 000 people in one year is pretty awesome,”
said Anthony. It never ceases to amaze me the generosity of this entire community. The Dome will be open for bookings by December or January and a grand official opening will be held sometime inMarch or in April of next year.
