Apprenticeship assessment Apprenticeship assessment is an impartial process that evaluates whether an apprentice has developed the skills, knowledge, and behaviours outlined in the relevant apprenticeship standard. Employers should select an AO early in the apprenticeship – typically via the training provider. However, the final decision lies with the employer. Early engagement helps ensure apprentices understand the assessment criteria and how they’ll be assessed. Once all the assessments connected with a standard have been completed, the AO records the outcome so that a certificate can be issued by Skills England.
