they believe la commonplace ? . . . If we have really believed the gospel of God, we have each one of us received for himself a revelation to which flesh and blood could never reach. Let us remember that. I value clear and Scrip tural statements of the truth; but it is not on clearness, or even orthodoxy, that the power depends. —Robert Anderson. 28. Are Yon Slighted? “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matt. 10:45). You are 'slighted, ignored; brushed aside. Or your employer, or employee, does not show you proper ' considera tion. . . . You feel it very much; in fact you are quite upset about it. Why ? Is it because you came to minister and were deprived of the privilege? No, . . . it is because your feelings, your rights, your gifts, your position, your importance wfere not recognized. You were not ministered unto. And you came to be ministered unto. Hence the storm!—J. H. Horsburg. 24. Taking Freely “Let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Rev. 22:17);. Out of Thy fullness, Lord, content our longing souls with good. Thou art the fountain whence all our satisfaction flows: Give us delights that shall not fall—streams of Thy bounty and re freshing waters of Thy love. . . . Oh, satisfy us early with Thy mercy, and make Thy joy our portion day and night . . . Hast Thou not called us to come and take of the water of life freely ? In the name, of Christ .we come. —Isaac Ogden Rankin. 25. A Fixed Heart • “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord’,’ (Psa. 112:7), Let me commend to you a life of trust in God in temporal things. Walk in your path of integrity with steadfast steps, and show that you are invincibly strong in the strength which confidence in God alone can confer. . . . There is no more blessed way of living than a life .of dependence upon a covenant-keep ing God. We have no care, for He careth for us; we have no troubles, be cause we cast our burdens upon the Lord.—Charles Haddon Spurgeon. God Working in You “It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Phil. 2:13). It is delightful, when you-have an unpleasant task* to do, and a difficult o— . .... . visit 26.

that one who has wronged you, trem bling and In dread that you may say something that In some way will spoil everything. But the Lord goes before you, and He fills up the valleys and levels dowp the hills, and you find the visit full of love and the house full of glory.—John Sloan. 27. Praying Through “As a prince hast thou power with God . . . and hast prevailed” (Gen. 32:28), Jacob by the brook Jabbok never would have gotten the blessing with such spineless praying as we hear to day. But he prayed alone. He prayed laboriously, for it was a wrestle. He prayed continuously, for he prayed all night. He prayed through. God seemed to be against him. He prayed in great agony, for his hip was out of joint; and he said, even under such circumstances, “I will not let thee go, except thou .bless me.”—Charles F. Brown. 28. For Whom Did Christ Die? “Christ . . . died for all” (2 Cor. 5:14,' 15). ■Twelve shipwrecked men were labor ing in heavy seas in an overloaded boat. One of the seamen, in order to lighten the boat, deliberately sprang overboard. The rest were saved. For which of the eleven did the sailor give his life? If Christ died for all, He died for each; for no one more than another, and no one omitted. The sun shines for nineteen hundred millions of man kind; but I know that it shines for me. —A. T. Pierson. 29. The Air of Heaven “Abide in me, and I in you” (John 15:4). A man’s physical health depends far more upon the air he breathes than upon the food he eats. Why did Jesus talk about abiding ? Because He provided an abiding place, and the mischief is that we forget our abiding place., You cannot prosper spiritually unless you live In the atmosphere here below that belongs to the world above, and this you find in Christ. God has provided it for us.—Evan H. Hopkins. SO. Light-Bringing Fact “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept” (1 Cor. 15:20). This . . . changes all the darkness of an earthly life, without a heavenly hope Into a blaze of light. All the dreariness for humanity, and all the vanity for Christian faith and preaching, vanish, like ghosts at cockcrow, when the resur rection of Jesus rises sunlike on the world’s night. It Is a historical fact, established by the evidence proper for such;—namely, the credible testimony of eyewitnesses. —Ale-ander Maclaren.
