abounds. Thus hearts are turned away from God and away from any desire to follow out His will as revealed in His Word. The Home is Lost Because There is No Fellowship 1 Cor. 15:33 The church brings together kindred hearts and unites spirits in a common cause for good. In the atmosphere of the church young lives find their companions, for the blessing of the heart and for the glory of God. In the church there is fel lowship with Christians and with the God of the Christians. Outside the church fellowships are formed which are not always godly and in many cases are quite ungodly. “ Evil communications corrupt good manners.” We should seek to mingle with God’s people who are the best peo ple on earth. By this fellowship we grow in grace and goodness. The expression get set refers to a full preparation for the work to be done. This is the will of God in regard to all His affairs. We should be well prepared for the many problems that develop in the Christian life. God expects us to grow into the full stature of a man of God. We are not to remain as babes who can take only milk, but as men who eat meat. Many of God’s dear people find the Saviour but never learn much in the after years. We Are to Grow in Grace 2 Pet. 3:18 The gospel of God’s grace is just a door to the life of faith. Having entered the door we then are to learn from God’s Word how to live. We are to discover from the Scriptures how to put on Christ and how to let the Holy Spirit direct our thoughts and words and deeds. The per son who is taught of God will develop more and more in patience, kindness, zeal, benevolence, honesty, righteousness, jus tice and liberality. These graces of the Spirit characterize one whose life has been touched by the risen Christ. We Are to Grow in Knowledge Col. 1:9 When we are first saved we know very little about the things that constitute a Christian life. We learn that the Lord Jesus is the Saviour and blots out the sins* with His precious blood. There is far more than this to learn. We find the counterpart of this in natural life. The newborn baby knows nothing. He begins to learn until in mature years he can build a bridge, for he has acquired a scientific mind. God’s Word is full of blessed truths that must be learned. God’s ways are marvelously intricate. We should learn them also. May 21, 1950 GETTING SET NOW 1 Cor. 4:2; Gal. 6:9; Eph. 6:6, 7

The homes of today should be charac terized by the family altar, with godly parents rearing obedient children. The sanctity of the home should never be desecrated by liquor or cards or prize fights or tobacco or dancing. Children should be reared in a better atmosphere. Parents should set a better example. The Word of God is the guide that will save from sin and sorrow. The Scriptures of truth will make life radiant, useful, and fruitful with the perfume of Heaven. Let us seek to save the family from ruin by introducing the precious Word of God and the reading of it in the home. The Home is Lost Because There is No Bible John 12:48 The Word of God has strange power to influence lives for God. The Bible is itself an omen for good wherever it is seen and heard. Families do not usually go astray when the Word of God is read each day. Children who are reared under the influence of the Scripture usually do not find their way to the detention home nor are they brought before the juvenile judge for delinquency. The Bible is God’s antidote and preventive and remedy for sin in all of its ramifications. Let us exalt the Word of God. Let us promote the reading of it and the use of it. The Home is Lost Because There is No Prayer is a very blessed influence on home life. The family altar brings the family together on their knees in the presence of the God of all grace. By means of prayer ill feelings are removed and differences of opinion are smoothed out, and the heart is made more holy in every way. Prayer makes life easier and removes wrinkles from troubled brows. Prayer in the home brings God into the home with all of His beneficent influence and wonderful power. We should seek to restore this blessing in the homes of our land. In no other way will they be saved. The Home is Lost Because There is No Church Connection Psa. 50:15 Although some churches are not ortho dox in their teaching nor godly in their living, many churches are all that the heart desires. Church life is not produc tive of wickedness; it promotes godliness and goodness among the citizens of the community. The home which neglects the church invites Satan to occupy the time, talents, and gifts of those in that home. When the church influence is absent, then the influence of the world grows and A P R I L , 1 9 5 0 ■Prayer Jas. 4:2
