for God which will lead men to God and will be widespread in its influence. Such a work is the China, Inland Mission, the Sudan Interior Mission, the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, the American Bible Society, and many others. These works were conceived in the hearts of men and are stable and lasting memo rials to the: high ideals of those who founded them. This is according to God’s will. Each person according to his ca pacity, ability, and resourcefulness is entitled to, do the same. We Are to Build a Church 1 Cor. 3:12 Each of God’s children should be defi nitely active in raising up, a Christian testimony in his community. It may be done by Bible classes or by street preach ing. It may begin in a mission in Skid Row or in a Bible-teaching ministry in the better residential districts^ It may be done by entering a faltering, failing church and by prayer, zeal, and wisdom building up a great and strong testimony for God in that particular place. The church may be built by personal visita tion work from house to house, in which tracts are distributed and personal con versations are conducted with interest ed persons. Those who find the Saviour will gather around the Lord Jesus in happy fellowship. We Are to Build a Character Jude 20 This building is accomplished by sin cere Bible study, by prayer, and by a personal acquaintance with .the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God enables one to become a man of God. The Holy Spirit reveals God’s character, and en ables the Christian to appreciate it and appropriate it. The graces of the Spirit as described in Galatians five enable one to be a loving husband or wife, an honest business man, an attractive church member, a valuable citizen, a kind parent—all that a person should be he may find in the leading and the teaching of the Spirit of God. Thus his character is made. We Should Build a House for God Acts 7:49 The church has many departments. The music must be arranged, there must be Bible teaching, the Sunday school must be well handled, and the young people’s work directed. Someone must care for the ushering and someone must be responsible for the finances. Visita tion must be done and advertising must be sent out. All of these various kinds of Christian work call for Spirit-filled and Spirit-led men and women. Unless all the departments co-operate and co ordinate the church cannot grow and function as it should. Each Christian should learn how to do some good work and serve the church in some depart ment.

We are not always to remain babes in Christ. We are to develop gifts and tal ents. There are latent powers in every believer which need to be stirred up and developed. This is done by learning the Scriptures and then by putting them to good use. We observe the lives of others and are instructed thereby. We learn God’s thoughts about the various aspects of life and fit ourselves into His plans. We learn how to pray more effectively and how to preach more powerfully .for God. We learn how to handle church problems arid personal difficulties,; This makes us greater and better Christians. The small tree bears just, a few branches of fruit, As it grows in size the amount and the quality of the fruit in creases. So it should be in the Christian life. We learn better how to deal with lost men and to help' those who are in need. We learn better how to preach and how to teach. We learn better how to handle projects for God that have a wider scope and a greater range of influence. As we learn better how to help the sor rowing and the suffering Christian our usefulness increases. May 28, 1950 WE WOULD BE BUILDING Phil. 3:12-14 Our lives should be constructive. We are saved to serve and to serve effec tively. There should be a goal set before each mind and heart. We should “ in tend to build a tower for God.” No life is very profitable that wanders here and there and drifts With the tide and the wind. We should be builders of our own characters and of the church of God and of the work of God generally. We should be specific in our ministry with a definite view to erecting a building found ed on the Lord Jesus, S9 that our influ ence will remain and will be felt. We Are to Build a Tower for God Luke 14:28 The thought embodied in this state ment evidently refers to a definite work We Should Grow in Usefulness Col. 1:10
