Clarence-Rockland solidifies ties with South Korea

The City of Clarence-Rockland has signed a sister-city agreement with Boeun City, solidifying its friendshipwith South Korea. Clarence-Rockland played host to a del- egation from Boeun City, Republic of Ko- rea on Monday, January 15. The delegation included the Mayor of Boeun, Jung, Sang Hyuck, dignitaries from the Korean Embassy, along with 15 grade-eight students.This day of exchange ended with the signing of a sister-city agreement between the two cities. Mayor Guy Desjardins and Mayor Jung, Sang Hyuck, of Boeun, signed this official agreement that is based upon “the prin- ciples of mutual benefit and equality.”Mayor Desjardins called the signing an historical event. “Becoming a sister municipality is a strong tradition that provides opportunities for peer-to-peer cooperation and fosters exchange,” said the mayor. “In the spirit of friendship, the City of Clarence-Rockland will cooperate with the municipality of Boeun to establish a friendship to promote different subjects.” During the presentation, Clarence- Rockland presented gifts to the delegation of Boeun City, which included baskets filled with goods representative of Canadian and Ontarian culture. Boeun City also presented gifts of its own, one which included a portrait of Mayor Guy Desjardins.
