ROOFING MORE DANGEROUS THAN FIREFIGHTING? When It Comes to Hazard, This Trade Ranks High
Roofers get to work above almost everyone else on
simply walking by an obvious hazard. It’s just their job to stop what they’re doing and address the issue. Sometimes this leads to uncomfortable situations. Every Dri Tech roofer has their OSHA card and gets more safety training than is required, and I firmly believe this commitment to safety is one of the things that sets us apart from the pack. But because that’s so, it’s not uncommon for our men and women to see another contractor or their workers doing something unsafe. Even if it won’t affect us, we try to address the situation anyway. Sometimes people are not receptive; they feel like they’re being called out. Being told that you’re acting unsafe can feel similar to being told that you’re being foolish or stupid or risking the lives of others, which is equally embarrassing for most people who have their heads on straight. But we’ve all been in that position, and knowing how to listen to others and speak with respect often makes it go over easier. Most people are grateful for the pointer, just like we are when someone mentions something to us. And that attitude is exactly what gives me hope for the future. In addition to this, the most recent statistics on job safety are promising. Roofing has consistently been ranked in the top five most dangerous jobs in the United States, sometimes the top three and (depending on whose numbers you

rare for a roofer to go to work and not get a better view than most offices will
ever afford, and even on the hottest days, the roof is the most likely place to catch a fresh breeze. But inherent to this come hazards as well — because in addition to the usual risks of being on a construction site all day, roofers have to contend with the fact that their job consistently ranks in the top five most dangerous careers in America. High up off the ground, at many times, the only thing that stands between a roofer and a tragic accident are the safety practices employed by the company. Dri Tech takes safety very, very seriously and Dri Tech’s safety program includes foreseeing the risks of the job and coming up with a safety plan as well as making sure that plan is being followed by the crew on the ground. But the fact is that, and we drill this constantly, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and it’s the first one they have. Ultimately, each person on a job site is responsible for their own safety and for the safety of others. We teach our team members “if you see something, say something” whether it’s being asked to do something unsafe, watching someone perform a task in a hazardous manner, or

3 BUSINESS TRICKS THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR PERSONAL LIFE
Adjusting your habits might seem difficult, but there’s actually a straightforward method. According to “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, every new habit has a simple formula behind it: motivation, ability, and prompt. Whether your reminder is an alarm at the same time every day or even another habit (“I’ll exercise before I take my morning shower”), make sure it’s part of any new process you implement. 3: Remember, work is flexible — your personal life isn’t. Bryan G. Dyson, CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, once told his staff, “Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them — work, family, health, friends, and spirit — and you are keeping all of these in the air.” In his metaphor, work is a rubber ball. “If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same.”
When you’re constantly in the “zone” at work, you’re not always thinking about what’s best for your personal life. While many business owners prioritize balance, what will truly benefit both your home and work life? Check out these three tricks. 1: Start your day with a plan. We know what you’re thinking: Writing out your plan is more work than just doing it. The key is to plan whenever you can. If you jot down things you want to accomplish the following day as they come up, all you’ll need to do is spend a few minutes organizing your list the next morning.
Pro Tip: Remember to include time to unwind and relax!
2: Develop new and improved processes. While certain activities can’t be replaced with shortcuts (like spending time with family), consider ways to make your current processes more efficient and beneficial. For example, you can’t lose weight if you don’t change your diet and exercise.

DRI TECH SPOTLIGHT After Work Is Done, Glendy Keeps Customers Satisfied
Entropy is a fact of the universe. As Yeats once put it, things fall apart. No matter how good of a job we do putting on a roof, in time you’ll need a new one — hopefully much longer than usual, of course. Glendy, our customer service specialist, will tell you the same thing: “If something needs a patch or a leak repair, I get the phone call.” Since our roofs don’t leak that often, we keep her busy with a few other things as well. Glendy also handles the stuff that stops roofs from needing repairs or replacements, like scheduling service calls and making sure clients are satisfied with the work we’ve done. If we had trouble sourcing material on a job, and will have to come back to finish up a day or two of work, she keeps us on schedule and generally keeps track of our promises so that we can fulfill every one we make.
“Right now, it’s a lot of work,” Glendy says, referencing the perfect storm of material shortages that is carrying over from the pandemic as well as one of Dri Tech’s busiest years ever. To stay fresh for all that work, Glendy makes sure her time off is truly time away from the job. “My husband and I moved here five years ago and we love to travel — Napa Valley was a big favorite, because we love wine and wineries,” she tells us. “When we do travel, we like to hike and stay active, have an adventure and not just a trip.” Grounded by the pandemic, Glendy is itching for her next escape! We’re grateful for all her hard work. She keeps customers happy, and customer satisfaction is our number one goal. Thanks, Glendy!

Isn’t it funny how entire new industries can spring up seemingly overnight? And yet, when we look at video game makers, they’ve been around for 40 years and counting, and industry giant Konami is one of the oldest and most established. It’s only appropriate that the company’s headquarters project was suitably impressive, taking part in two phases over a period of years, with Dri Tech involved every step of the way! For phase one — an entirely new building on Konami’s campus — Firestone provided all the TPO roofing and aluminum composite material panels, and Dri Tech installed them to spec. Phase two was even more involved, at least on our end. We used TPO from Firestone again, but we fabricated the ACM panels! We did that because otherwise, there was simply no way the project could get done on time. We were down to the wire on scheduling after ACM became very hard to source. If you can’t buy it, you can make it yourself, especially if you have our workshop!

Our resourcefulness paid off. We made our deadline, and you could even argue that our part of the project will be seen by the most people. That’s because we applied coating to create the client’s logo on the roofing surface in Konami Red (a custom Tremco coating color) and it is visible from planes taking off at McCarran International Airport!
We had fun on this one, but we tested ourselves as well. It doesn’t get much better than that.

The Henderson Silver Knights have a storied history and one that’s welcome here in Nevada. This was their first season in Henderson, where they rocked the regular season and finished as a top seed, then showed their stuff in the postseason as well. Anybody who was a fan of their 18 years in San Antonio knows that this team means business — and it’s a welcome addition to our Round Table! After all, what could be better than two storied Knights teams dominating their respective fields? We’re excited to have the Silver Knights on our side and confident we can expect many more victories to come from the Round Table as a whole.

Make a Cheap, Easy DIY Box Fan Filter
As we write this, fire season is in full swing across the United States. Smoke from those wildfires drifts through thousands of cities and millions of homes each summer, aggravating asthma and causing coughing fits. If your house is in an affected area — or you’d just like to ensure that your family is breathing the cleanest, healthiest air possible — this cheap, easy, DIY air filter has your back. What You Need Making a DIY air filter is incredibly simple. All you need is a box fan, a HEPA filter (cheap pleated filters from Winix or FilterBuy work perfectly), and something to attach the filter to the fan, like duct tape, canvas straps, sturdy ribbon, zip ties, or clamps. Use whatever attachment material you have on hand! A screwdriver and four screws are optional. You should be able to find all of the necessary materials at your local hardware store for $25–$50. Build Your Box Fan Filter You’ve probably guessed how this project will come together! First, lay your fan intake side up and cover the front grate with the HEPA KEEP YOUR HOME’S AIR CLEAN ON THE CHEAP WITH A DIY BOX FAN FILTER!
filter. Then, use your canvas straps, clamps, or duct tape to attach the filter to the fan! If you have a screwdriver handy, unscrew the front grating of the box fan before adding the filter, then replace it with the HEPA filter and strap the two together. For a super-study method, screw the filter in place with or without removing the grid. There you have it! You’ve created a filter that will remove dust, smoke, lint, pet dander, and pollen from your home. Tips and Tricks If you’re a visual learner, YouTube is a great resource for this hack! Just search “DIY Air Filter,” and you’ll get dozens of results. One video, “DIY Air Filter | Box Fan Modification | Cleaner Air for Your Home!” even reveals how to use J-channel to make it easy to change out the HEPA filter over time.
This DIY box fan filter isn’t as sturdy or effective as a fancy purifier, but it’s a great option if you’re on a budget.
