City budgets for emergency sewer line fix

The company’s crew had trouble clearing the blockage and consulted with the Ontario Clean Water Association (OCWA), which brought in another company, Aqua Drain, to try and unclog the pipe. “A great deal of material was removed from the pipe,” stated the administration report, “and flushing of the service lateral was undertaken as well.” Three days later city staff received a call from the school that plumbing situation was “still slow.” The OCWA brought in a vacuum-flusher truck and also a sent in a drone camera unit. The drone camera revealed the service lateral from the Chêne Street manhole to the school property line in “very bad shape” with various types of pipe making up sec- tions of the lateral. Some sections are out of alignment and “full of tree roots”. The report indicated access to the service lateral between the property line and the school building was impossible and that section also needed repair work. The cost for repairs is shared between the city and the CSDCEO, with the city res- ponsible for the lateral section from the Chêne Street manhole up to the property line right-of-way. The school council is res- ponsible for the repairs on its own property. Council approved a recommendation from administration to have STP Enginee- ring and Construction deal with the city por- tion of the lateral repair, since the company was already hired for the St-Joseph Street reconstruction and extension project for this year. The cost of the city’s share for the lateral repair will be figured into the overall budget for the St-Joseph Street project. Police seek help on sex assault case The OPP askfor help from the public in tracking down a suspect wanted in a sexual assault investigation in Rockland. Police have received a report of the in- cident, alleged to have taken place at Dal- rymple Park in Rockland, sometime between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on Feb. 2. Problems with a blocked up sewer line to a neighbourhood school prompted Cla- rence-Rockland city council to approve an emergency repair budget allocation.
