Accident sur la 17 Une collision automobile a perturbé la circulation le 2 juillet dernier en matinée, sur le che- min de comté 17, à l’intersection de la rue Tupper à Hawkesbury. Les policiers de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) ont dû ériger un périmètre de sécurité car une des victimes, une jeune enfant, à dû être héliportée à Ottawa. Au moment de mettre sous presse, la PPO n’avait pas encore divulgué d’information officielle sur l’incident, ses causes et l’état des passagers. Patio furniture theft case solved Several homeowners can enjoy lounging outside on their deck chairs again this summer after police found a cache of stolen patio furniture. For the past few weeks, the Hawkesbury OPP detachment has had calls about stolen patio furniture. Most of the calls came from homeowners in either Hawkesbury or L’Orignal, reporting loungers, patio umbrellas, and even lawn ornaments gone missing from house porches, balconies, and backyards. Police have now arrested Julie Piette, 39, of Hawkesbury, after executing a search warrant June 16 at a residence on McGill Street. They recovered numerous patio furniture pieces, including dining sets, sectionals, loungers, cushions and other items. Piette is charged with possession of stolen property. She was released on a promise to appear at the June 29 provincial court session in L’Orignal.Several of the items seized during the raid were returned to their rightful owners but police still have some patio sets, folding chairs and umbrellas in the detachment evidence locker. Anyone who is still missing their patio furniture can contact either Const. Stéphanie Fortin-Provost or Det-Const. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death by drowning of a two-year-old child on Canada Day. Around 1 p.m., July 1st, police, parame- dics, and fire-rescue crews responded to a 911 call about a drowning incident at a residence in Alfred-Plantagenet Township. The two-year-old child was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead. A post-mortemexamination is scheduled for July 4 at Ottawa Hospital. Det-Inspector Paul Yelle of the Hawkes-
bury OPP Criminal Investigations Branch is directing the investigation of all the cir- cumstances surrounding the tragic death. L’Association canadienne française de l’Ontario de Prescott-Russell (ACFO PR) a récemment nommé Liette Valade à la direction générale. « Nous sommes très heureux que Mme Valade se joigne à l’équipe de l’ACFO PR. En s’appuyant sur un CA dynamique et compétent, la nouvelle directrice générale s’est fixé comme objectif de rendre l’ACFOPR plus présente, plus efficace et plus représentative de la population régionale », a déclaré Nathalie Ladouceur, présidente du CA. Forte d’une expérience en gestion de projets, Mme Valade a occupé des postes clés au sein de la municipalité de Hawkesbury dont celui de directrice du service des loisirs et de la culture. Elle a également occupé le poste d’animatrice culturelle dans les écoles élémentaires et secondaires françaises de l’Ontario. Elle aura comme premier mandat de se pencher sur le plan stratégique de l’organisme et de produire le plan opérationnel qui doit en résulter.
