BELGRADE HAS BEEN IN- CLUDED IN THE MICHELIN GUIDE for the third consecutive year, this time with 22 restaurants, although we are still waiting for any of them to receive a first Star. Gwen- dal Poullennec, International Direc- tor of the MICHELIN Guides, em- phasised three years ago – when the Serbian capital was first included in this prestigious guide to the world’s best eateries – that he felt a very dy- namic atmosphere and impressive authenticity in Belgrade. This year, af- ter adding five new restaurants to the list of recommendations, he pointed out that great enthusiasm was not- ed on the Serbian restaurant scene. “Our inspectors focused on small bistros and vibrant cuisine. The previ- ous selection was confirmed, even if some chefs have changed, confirming that restaurant entrepreneurs still have a great vision of food and bever- ages. Both in the old town and in the quaint neighbourhoods, the famous- ly anonymous inspectors remarked a focus on local production, on sim-

ple yet tasty recipes and an interest- ing balance between traditional Ser- bian and modern cuisine, with an international touch,” said Poullen- nec, explaining the 2024 selection. A new Bib Gourmand restaurant One new Bib Gourmand was as- signed to a new restaurant in the se- lection, Istok , which offers authen- tic Vietnamese cuisine that’s simple but generous. The Michelin inspec- tors particularly appreciated the Goi Cuon, a vegetarian summer roll. The ambience is a classic oriental setting, enhanced by traditional lanterns. Four new recommendations Klub Književnika – This em- blematic Serbian eatery has amassed more than 70 years of history, as one of the most popular cafés to emerge after World War II. The atmosphere is traditional and the décor cosy. A must-eat here is the gibanica pie with cheese and aromatic herbs.
