“ When is The Right Time To Seek Treatment For My Health? ” Discussing What Contributes To Good Health

When you’re asked, “What is the definition of good health?” what comes to mind? Maybe you think about eating well, having a healthy weight, or a strong heart. Certainly good health is a broad term and can relate to many different systems in our body. People often think of the cardiovascular system as one’s heart, arteries, and veins and certainly, this system is central to good health. Yet, I believe without too much effort I can make a case for why you should give your musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints, and related tissues) first priority in your definition of health. It is a fact that nearly every other system in our body (we have seven major systems – nervous, vascular, hormonal, respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal, and elimination systems) gets the attention of your physician more so than your musculoskeletal system. There is often a proactive approach about the health of your heart with the use of blood and stress tests. In fact, specific tests can tell your doctor a great deal about how well many of your systems are working. The central idea to these tests and regular checkups is to identify problems in their early phase and to get them handled when they’re simpler to solve. (continued inside)

“ Why Not Give Everyone Access To A Healthier Lifestyle?” Discussing What Contributes To Good Health

It is a basic reality that your doctor has a great deal of responsibility in helping you keep your health; but what is not always valued is that your musculoskeletal health is often what provides the optimal function of your other systems. Unfortunately, pain related to your musculoskeletal system is handled more from a reactive response rather than proactive. If you are not in pain or don’t have a complaint it is assumed things are in order. If this idea is combined with using pain relievers and anti-inflammatories to handle what aches and pains develop over time then the right care is being delayed even more. For many types of musculoskeletal problems, pain is what prompts medical attention. Yet, often (not always) pain is a response to pressure. It is what makes the nerves complain and say, “Something is not right!” What is not commonly known, however, is pressure is in response to imbalance in the muscular and joint systems. Generally, medication to treat inflammation and pain help in calming the interference of the problem, but often fails at treating the cause of the problem. In our current medical model, our musculoskeletal system may not be appreciated for being the foundation to our overall health, but the truth is, it plays a major role in optimal health, quality of life, and longevity. In fact, correct exercise and activity enhance the health of many of your other major systems. It is commonly recognized that when a person is not able to exercise, many other systems suffer and develop problems. It is no mystery that heart and vascular health is directly related to exercise, as well as proper weight control, and it is safe to say that a sedentary lifestyle has a negative influence on all major systems in your body. For a system that has so much to do with your future quality of life, and so much to do with how the rest of your body feels, should you just use pain as your primary indicator of health? Should you settle for an insurance system that is mostly reactive to your complaints versus proactive? Full Potential believes in the importance of being proactive in your muscular health, for the health of your whole body. That’s why we offer the Full Potential Proactive Program.

“ If You Are a Person Who Values Your Quality of Life, Then the Full Potential Proactive Program is For You.”

The Full Potential Proactive Program The Full Potential Proactive Program has been designed for past patients that want to stay on top of their muscular health, and their health as a whole. This program consists of 2-4 appointments per year (depending on individual needs). This gives you the opportunity to be examined by your Physical Therapist who, at each appointment, will evaluate your musculoskeletal system, identify non-optimal areas, and provide treatment and exercise to correct the imbalances. We’ve found that patients find multiple benefits in staying connected to us after they discharge. If you are a person who values their quality of life, who has a notable amount of responsibility and cannot afford to be down, or who wants a better system to catch and correct your musculoskeletal tendencies before they become painful, then the Full Potential Proactive Program is for you. See the related article for a patient who is following this program with great success.

Full Potential Proactive Program Patient Success Story

“I’ve been a part of the Full Potential’s Proactive Program for a little over three years and I’ve learned so much about my body!”

“I’ve been a part of Full Potential’s Proactive Program for a little over three years. I come once every three months for a routine check up and I have found these appointments to be vital for my long term health.

Physical Therapy began for me when I had tingling and numbness in my leg about four years ago. Full Potential played a key role in helping me find the root cause of my issue and recommended I get an MRI, the results lead to surgery. After surgery, I began physical therapy at Full Potential for rehabilitation. It was a very rewarding experience that taught me so much about my own body. During rehab, one of the main goals for me was to be able to lift 25 pounds safely because having a one year old son required me to do so. Every appointment was tailored to what I needed at that time and it helped a ton to have a PT that always knew where to pick right back up from. After rehab, they recommend I come in after 3 months have passed to check on my alignment and to ensure that I was doing my exercises correctly. The check- up appointment turned out to be a positive experience where I regained motivation to keep myself well. I then scheduled another appointment in 3 months and since then, I have been doing that! These 3 month appointments keep me accountable and motivated. Every time I come in, I feel motivated to continue my exercises at home and continue to be aware of my body. I feel like since coming here, I have learned so much about my body and I feel like I’ve learned to appreciate what my body is capable of. It’s a small commitment, with huge benefits that last until your next scheduled appointment. I find it to be an investment in my long term health and you can’t put a price tag on that. I always tell people to not underestimate what can be done in an hour. Everyone should have their own Physical Therapist because it is that beneficial!”
