Nischal Timalsina - “Traditions, Culture and Beliefs in Christianity and Islam: A Comparitive Discussion” (session 3) In this project, I'd want to enquire and compare in between the similarities and differences of two different monotheistic beliefs: The Christianity and the Islam. Although there are many differences, they have a common belief in a single, all-powerful Deity i.e., monotheism. Each of these religion has a different holy book—Christianity has the Bible and Islam has the Quran. For instance at first glance, Bible and Quran seem to have numerous cases, which are similar, when it comes to God, the Creator, the Last Judgment, eternal life, and eternal death. Personally, I think that religions were designed to bring people together and create a spectacular human garland. It is designed to uphold global harmony and unite people under the idea of divine right. Ana Paula Torresbaca Cruz - “The American Dream” (session 16) Studying and becoming a professional is the true American dream. It takes a lot of challenge and effort for students and their parents. This seed in many cases is planted based on sports, the United States being a world power known for the support and development it has in sports hand in hand with studies, known as "STUDENT ATHLETES". In this forum I will talk about the process to apply for a scholarship, the paperwork, questions from students and parents to day one at the University and the orientation that is given to them to start their career. Ana Paula Torresbaca Cruz (session 17) - see Furiati Habby Vaglienti (session 16) - see Linder Hannah Vandeventer - Self Defense Scenario (Special Session 9:00-12) Faith Via - “Effects of Illegal Immigrants on the United States” (poster session) In my study, I'm looking into the effects of the United States' southern border and the issues the U.S. is facing with the number of illegal immigrants increasing, and the effects it has on everyday life in America. Looking further into the issues that come through our border along with surveying Missouri Valley students will show both sides of these issues. It is my hypothesis that 75% of Missouri Valley students surveyed believed that having our border open doesn't affect every American in their daily lives. The scope of my research will show the impact of illegal immigrants along with the effects it plays on the U.S. My research will also reveal how American citizens see the effects of immigration on daily life.. Hugo Lorenzo Vieira Dos Santos - Self Defense Scenario (Special Session 9:00-12) Tatiana Werts - “Correlation Between Crime and Poverty” (poster session) The inadequate amount of resources provided in poverty stricken areas, directly correlates with high crime rates. Listed are some examples of things that are in particular need of support in these regions: clean water, a variety of nutritious foods, adequate educational settings, and safe recreational outlets. As a result of this, an emphasis has been put on increasing the quality of resources to these areas, in hopes to limit the high amount of crime. This research reports the findings, obtained by Missouri Valley College Students, to observe if they believe crime and poverty are correlated.
