Une journée pour dire « merci maman »
Si la fête des Mères est l’occasion par excellence de rappeler à celle qui nous a tant bercé combien on l’aime, c’est aussi le moment de lui dire merci. Merci pour tout l’amour qu’elle nous a donné et qu’elle nous donne encore et toujours, inconditionnellement. Merci pour les plaies, celles du corps comme du cœur, qu’elle a si bien su panser. Merci pour les heures de sommeil sacrifiées aux innombrables pratiques de hockey, pour les kilomètres par- courus au nom des cours de danse et des tournois de soccer. Merci pour les précieux conseils qui sonnaient creux
à nos oreilles d’adolescent mais qu’on a compris des années plus tard. Merci d’avoir contribué à faire de nous la per- sonne qu’on est devenue. Merci pour tout. Il est parfois difficile de trouver les mots justes pour exprimer tout notre amour et notre infinie reconnaissance. Or, la poésie n’est pas la seule manière de toucher le cœur de ceux qu’on aime. Vous pouvez notamment faire un palmarès des plus beaux souvenirs mettant votre mère en vedette, de la fois où vous avez campé ensemble
dans le sous-sol, au sourire qu’elle affi- chait lors de votre remise de diplôme. Vous pouvez aussi faire un recueil des phrases que vous l’avez maintes fois entendu répéter, ou d’extraits de ses chansons préférées… Comme quoi vous la connaissez aussi bien qu’elle vous connaît. Oui, enfin, presque.
Surtout, remerciez-la au quotidien : multipliez les attentions à son égard et soyez là pour elle, comme elle l’a tou- jours été pour vous. C’est la meilleure façon de lui dire « Merci, maman. Je t’aime. » “Mommy” A little word filled with so much love
“Mommy” is just a small, two-syllable word, and yet it is so important to every one of us. Often the first word spoken by babies, “Mommy” represents the magical heart of the ever-expanding universe of young chil- dren. The relationship between a child and its mother or mother figure cannot be com- pared to any other human relationship. In the best of worlds, “Mommy” evokes gentleness and firmness, kisses and hugs. She is the angel of the night come to rescue us from nightmares. She is the nurse who tends to scraped knees, the caregiver who dons an apron to prepare healthy meals,
and the fairy who never forgets to make you a birthday cake. She is the one who feels the pain of your heartache and who will always defend you when you’re attacked. Your mother is the one who knows you best, the one who helps you overcome obs- tacles and dreams of a beautiful future for you. She helps you build your confidence and surpass yourself. She shows you the value of wisdom rather than misplaced pride.
growing child learns discernment and sees parents for the human beings they are, with their strengths and weaknesses. Rather than spoiling their love, this discovery is often the source of a closer relationship for adult children and their mothers. Even if your childhood was less than ideal, the affection that unites you both will only grow as you understand that your mother did the best she could with the resources she had. Make this Mother’s Day a time of gratitude. Thank your mom for guiding you and hel- ping you become the adult you are today.
