to academically outstanding and financially needy students. Through its fundraising, alumni activities, grant development, and volunteers, the development office creates greater opportunities for students, faculty, and staff and thus ensures the College’s ability to attain a financially sound margin of excellence for its students. Grants Office HCC’s grants office, operating as part of College Advancement, is the main point of contact for grants development. Working with faculty, administrators, and other staff, the grants office ensures that every grant proposal developed and submitted by HCC aligns with the institution’s priorities. The grants office also helps to ensure that any grant for which HCC wishes to serve as a partner fits with college priorities as well. Before developing a grant proposal and/or committing to participate in a grant project at another institution, faculty and staff should contact the grants office to ensure that protocol for HCC grant development is followed and necessary forms are submitted. The Director of Grants Development will review, comment upon, and forward grant ideas to administrators and, based on administrators’ decisions, will notify faculty and staff about whether grant opportunities are to be pursued. The grants office also writes and edits grant proposals and provides information to assist HCC faculty and staff in writing proposals. Finally, the Director of Grants Development meets with grant managers at the inception of each grant and throughout the grant cycles of most major grants to review HCC’s guidelines for administering grant projects and review grant goal attainment, since goal attainment directly affects not only college processes, but also future grant development. Throughout the life cycle of each grant, the director serves in an advisory capacity for grant managers, helping to address grant-related opportunities, questions, and challenges. Both grants office staff members---the director and the administrative office associate---assist with reports and other grant-related questions as they arise. Public Relations and Marketing HCC’s Public Relations and Marketing (PRM) Office seeks to enhance communication and facilitate information sharing about the College both internally and externally. Its primary functions are to serve as the gatekeeper for the release of information to the media and other external audiences, support student recruitment efforts, plan and direct all College marketing efforts, and assist in building and maintaining good working relationships with local and state elected officials. The PRM Office produces all college promotional and marketing materials, which include college publications such as the academic catalog, course guides and schedules, and program literature. This includes the HCC website, institutional videos, and all college-related social media content. As the primary gatekeeper for the release of College information to the media, PRM is responsible for the preparation and dissemination of all press releases and media announcements on behalf of the College. This office acts as the liaison between the College and the media, and requests that all media inquiries be initiated here. College faculty or staff members who are contacted by news reporters or other media officials should contact Beth Kirkpatrick at 240-500-2265 before speaking to the press or disseminating college-related information to the media.
