tion that the graces of Christian living are more often apparent in the cases of those who have passed through great tribulation. God desires to get as rich crops as possible from the soil of our natures. There are cer tain plants of the Christian life, such as meekness, gentleness, kindness, humility, which cannot come to perfection if the sun of prosperity always shines.— Revelation. JANUARY 25 Fed from Above "A well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon” (Cant. 4:15). A t St. Margaret’s, on the South Coast, there is a well of water which is below the high tide mark, so that when the tide comes in, the ' sea water covers the well. But the sea never gets in, although twice a day it passes over the top. How is it that the well remains fresh and pure? It is fed from the hills above. There is a constant source of sweet, pure water ever flowing in, keeping the salt, brackish water from entering and defiling the well. How can the Christian life be maintained? How is it possible, amid all the temptations and de gradation of this world, for the Christian to be pure and sweet, always loving, tender, and gracious? No man is equal to this task in his own strength. But there is a source of supply coming from the eternal hills of heaven that will be like a well of water within the Christian, keeping back from him the tides of evil, preserving him in the hour of trial, and filling him with the love of Christ.— The Christian. “As for me, 1 will behold thy face in righteousness: 1 shall be satisfied, when 1 awake, with thy likeness” (Psa. 17:15). I have not a balance to weigh the worth of my Lord Jesus. Heaven, ten heavens would not be the beam of a balance to weigh Him in. with this paper currency. Where divine faith is found, it takes the notes to Christ’s bank and receives the cash. But human faith cannot traffic with this paper; it reads the notes and owns them good, but dares not take them to the skies for pay ment. No faith can truly act on God but that which comes from God. — J. B erridge . "God . . . hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6). "W e all . . . beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image” (2 Cor. 3:18). In infinite love, in His kindness and grace, Our , Father in heaven hath shown in the face O f Christ, His beloved, adorable Son, His glory, the covenant work He hath done. Redeemed by His blood!
