FINAT Releases Labelstock Stats

After a relatively modest start in 2021, labelstock demand in Europe boomed in the second quarter, ac- cording to new statistics released by FINAT. Compared to the same quar- ter of 2020, consumption of self-ad- hesive label materials in Europe was 9.3 percent higher. Label demand already peaked in second quarter 2020 with an annual growth rate of 8 percent due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The demand peak in the spring of 2021 correlated with the general economic recovery in Eu- rope as demonstrated by the 13.2 per- cent growth of the EU economy com- pared to the second quarter in 2020. Increasing Demand Contrary to 2020, labelstock de- mand growth was led by volume pa- per roll demand, which increased by a record 14.6 percent year-on-year, as opposed to a 4.2 percent decline in demand for filmic roll label materi- als, compared to the peak in second quarter 2020 (when non-paper rolls registered a record increase of 22.4

percent). The peak in paper roll demand already an- nounced itself in the first quarter, when reports came in about paper shortages in the supply chain, after a period of destocking. Overall, in the first half of 2021, self-adhesive label- stock demand in Europe grew by 5.4 percent com- pared to the first half of 2020 (plus 7.7 percent for paper rolls, and a ‘modest’ 0.3 percent for filmic rolls). Regionally, demand growth in the first half of 2021 was led by strong, double-digit year-on-year growth rates re- corded in UK & Ireland,Southern Europe and Eastern Eu- rope. MCC Awarded Silver Rating From EcoVadis

Multi-Color Corporation (MCC), a global label con- verter has been awarded the EcoVadis silver rating for its sustainability efforts. EcoVadis is a sustainability assessment tool, evaluat- ing companies on social, ethical, and environmental impacts. The used methodology is based on interna- tional sustainability standards (such as UNGC, ISO,GRI, etc.) and grades the efforts across four main pillars: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sus- tainable procurement. In 2020, MCC determined a need to create a struc- tured sustainability roadmap and accelerate its efforts. It then committed to achieving a silver medal for Eco- Vadis by 2022. Mushroom Packaging Market Grows

Flexo Market News

According to a report from Infinium Global Re- search, the global mushroom packaging market was valued at $57.44 million in 2020 and expected to reach $160 million in 2027, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 16.07 percent during the forecast pe- riod. Mushroom-based packaging solutions comprise packaging materials that are made from agricultural waste and mushroom roots such as fungus roots and residues from farming. The result is a fully natural com- posite material and after use, this can be broken down in the compost at home. The packaging is reportedly a highly resistant material that companies use for green packaging. The increasing environmental consciousness con- sumers is the key factor that is driving the mushroom packaging market. However, the lack of awareness by the masses, especially in low-income countries is re- straining the growth of the market. Geographically, the growth in the mushroom pack- aging market in the North American region is owing to stringent government regulations and increasing consumer preferences. Europe is expected to gener- ate the highest CAGR in the global mushroom pack- aging market during the forecast period due to the increasing production and sale of mushrooms in this region. Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region in terms of CAGR.The factors that favor market growth are the large consumer base and the increasing per capita expenditure.
