The grant will be used for several projects. This will include improvements to Pangborn Hall, which serves as the meeting place for Rockland seniors, to make it a more welco- ming and safe meeting place. The money will also be used for the purchase of a new refrigerator for the kitchen, the repair of exterior brick work, the purchase of a sign to promote the Seniors group’s activities and the widening of the exterior ramp to improve Pangborn Hall’s accessibility. St. Andrew’s Christian Church in Rockland received $24,020 from the federal govern- ment. Francis Drouin, MP for Glengarry-Pres- cott-Russell, made the announcement at St. Andrew’s Christian Church on Wednes- day, January 24, on behalf of the Honou- rable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Fami- lies, Children and Social Development. St. Andrew’s Christian Church received this amount from the government’s New Hori- zons for Seniors Program (NHSP). “Now, thanks to the NHSP grant, seniors living in Clarence-Rockland and the sur- rounding communities will enjoy the bene- fits of a safe, welcoming, and friendly place where they canmeet for fellowship, fun and encouragement,” said Jane Cooper, chair of

Alfred-Plantagenet refuses to pay for County Road 9 work The Township of Alfred-Plantagenet declined to pay an invoice from the United Counties of Prescott-Russell for paving work done on County Road 9. The Township argues the counties went ahead with paving work on County Road 9, between the former train track and Old Highway 17, without consult- ing Alfred-Plantagenet. After completing the work, the counties sent an invoice of $7,835.52 to Alfred-Plantagenet. Since the Township was unaware of this paving work, they had not budgeted for this expense. The Township of Alfred-Plantagenet has therefore refused to pay the invoice. —Alexia Marsillo St-Andrew’s Christian Church a reçu 24 000 $ du gouvernement fédéral dans le cadre du Programme Nouveaux Horizons pour les aînés (PNHA). It is better to burn out than to rust out.” This is not the first time the Seniors group receives money from the NHSP. They have previously received about $ 18 000, which they used for roof repairs at Pangborn Hall and for the purchase of a computer. “The Government of Canada is dedi- cated to expanding opportunities for Canadian seniors to get involved in com- munity activities that meet their needs,” concluded Drouin.
