YOUR VOTE IS ALASKA’S FUTURE: YOUR GUIDE TO 2026 ELECTIONS

If you missed the by-mail appli- cation deadline, early or absen- tee in-person voting remains available. Voters may also request a ballot by fax or online delivery; applications must be received by 5 p.m. Alaska time on Monday, November 2. Online delivery is a way to receive a ballot, not to vote over the internet. Follow the accompa- nying instructions for printing, witnessing, and returning it. Ballots returned by fax must be received by 8 p.m. on November 3; voted ballots cannot be returned by email. Visit www.elections.alaska. gov to check your registration, find voting locations, review your sample ballot, track an absentee ballot, or contact your regional elections office. For absentee questions, call 907- 270-2700 or 1-877-375-6508. The voter registration deadline for this election was October 4. How Ranked Choice Voting Works Unlike August’s pick-one primary, the November General Election uses ranked choice voting for candidate races. Rank your first-choice candidate in the first column, your second choice in the second column, and additional choices in order of preference. Rank each candi- date only once and select only one candidate in each ranking column. You may rank as many or as few candidates as you wish; ranking additional candi- dates does not count against your first choice. First-choice votes are counted first. If a candidate receives

more than half of those votes, that candidate wins. Otherwise, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and ballots for that candidate transfer to each voter’s next-ranked candi- date still in the race. Elimination and transfer rounds continue until two candidates remain; the candidate with more votes wins. If your ballot has no remaining ranked candidate, it becomes inactive in subsequent rounds. Ballot measures and judicial retention questions are decided

by yes-or-no votes, rather than candidate rankings. Although voters will consider a proposal to repeal ranked choice voting, the current system applies to this November’s candidate races. Statewide Ballot Measures Two statewide ballot mea- sures appear on the November ballot. Read the full language and supporting and opposing

Locations, days and hours vary, so check the Alaska Division of Elections website at www. elections.alaska.gov The deadline for the Division of Elections to receive an application for an absentee ballot by mail is October 24. If you have already request- ed and received a ballot, follow the instructions carefully: sign the return envelope in the pres- ence of a witness, have the witness sign, and provide a required voter identifier. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before November 3 and received by November 13 if mailed within the United States, or November 18 if mailed from outside the country. Mail early enough to allow for transit and postmarking. Follow the Division’s instructions for returning a ballot in person, including approved locations and the 8 p.m. Election Day deadline.
