Also taking to the air, so to speak, is the Canadian Raptor Conservatory display, featuring five «distinctly different raptors» and the unique flight capabilities of these birds. Midway games, magicians, a classic car and motorcycle show, antique farm equip- ment displays, the gymkhana western games for cowboys and cowgirls, a petting zoo and pony rides for little ones, sheepherding de- monstrations, displays and competitions for best produce, flowers, arts and crafts,

Between the high-wire act above the fair- grounds and the gymkhana excitement in the corrals around back, along with the live music on the outdoor stage, the crash-and- bang action in the demolition derby pit and the quiet contemplation of local crafts and artworks, there is something for everyone at this year’s Russell Fair. Organizers of the 157 th Annual Russell Fair promise four days of fun for everyone from the official opening on Sept. 10 to the closing ceremony on Sept. 13. In between is a wealth of live entertainment, interesting displays, good food, and family fun. «Throughout the four days,» stated John Hickling, this year’s Russell Fair president, «fair volunteers will be on hand to welcome newcomers and reconnect with old friends as they showcase the best of farming life, offering home-grown goods and hand-craf- ted products, interactive displays to educate

Cassandra Guertin Thibodeau, d’Embrun, qui est sous dialyse depuis sa plus tendre enfance et qui n’a plus de rein, a reçu un appel important de l’Hôpital Général d’Ottawa vers 18 h 35 le 11 août dernier : on lui annonçait qu’il y avait un rein en attente pour elle. Ses parents, Nathalie Guertin et PatrickThibodeau, l’ont aussitôt accompagnée. Le 13 août, à 4 h 15, Cassandra entrait en salle d’opération pour six longues heures afin que l’équipe de chirurgiens lui transplante son tout nouveau rein. « L’opération s’est très bien passée, a dit son père, et son rein fabrique déjà de l’urine, ce qui est excellent. » Cassandra restera à l’hôpital pendant quelques temps encore afin de s’assurer que tout est sous contrôle.
