LESSON: I have chosen a purple crayon because purple is a royal color and has often in the past been associated with kings. I want this crayon to re mind us of David, Israel’s king. Crayons are not strong and if not handled very carefully they break. The smallest child here could easily break this crayon. I have a large bright bolt which will remind us of God and His power. This crayon, which is very easily broken, if placed close to the bolt would be much less apt to be broken. If it were possible to put the crayon on the inside of the bolt, it would be next to impossible for any of you to break it. Watch and see what happens when I put the crayon on the inside of the bolt. (Insert it in the hole, allowing it to disappear.) Now, who would be foolish enough to try to break the crayon? The Lord gave wonderful protec tion to David because David trusted in Him. In 2 Samuel 5:10,12, we read, “ And David went on, and grew great, and the L o r d God of hosts was with him. . . . And David perceived that the L o r d had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.” Not only was David blessed but Israel as well. “ And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people” (2 Sam. 8:15). This crayon in the bolt reminds me of Ephesians 6:10, “ F i n a l l y , my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
