Oh, Canada magic on ice
They stepped out to glide and slide across the rink, and danced up a magical ice storm for a very appreciative audience at the Clarence-Rockland Arena. Over the March 28 weekend, the place to be for fans of figure skating was in Rockland on Sunday for the Club de patinage Rockland Skating Club’s Oh, Canada! end-of-season ice show. “It was a great show,” said Gail Malette, head coach. Dozens of skaters, from the very young just learning to keep their balance to the more experienced and energetic competitive singles, duos and teams, whirled, twirled, and spun about the ice in colourful costumes to musical accompaniment ranging from the easy-listening jazz of Canada’s Michael Bublé to Cirque du Soleil’s Quidam or Stompin’ Tom Connors roaring and raucus “The Hockey Song”.
