SPECIAL PRAYER EDITION

"You do not test the resources of God, until you pray for the jmpossible," in wisdom a saint of old suggests, and the truth of this is clearly revealed in Scrjpture as we realize that "with God, nothing is impossible." Through the nearly half-century of progress by the Bible lnstjtute of Los Angeles, we have been able to go forward for Christ only as you have been faithful in upholding our spiritual arms in prayer. During thjs time, untold numbers have been lead to the Lord through our thousands of graduates around the world, extensive radio ministry, publications, and other varjed phases of ministry. Now, as we contemplate a much-needed campus for adequate facilities to meet the rising number of Christ-dedicated students who desire to prepare themselves for the Lord's servjce, we realize that such a development will be impossible without your faithfulness in prayerful support. For, "unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it." We trust that as you read through the columns of thls month's BROADCASTER, you will be stirred to pray regu– larly and expectantly for the Lord's undertaking in this important step of much-needed development.

THE

lamp unto my feet By DR. SAMUEL H. SUTHERLAND, Pruident "Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and re shall receive, that your joy may be full." ·A little girl, who was only nine years old, became very sick, and when her father took her to the family physician, his order was that she be sent to the hospital immediately. When she was examined, a specialist who had been called in, stated that an operation was absolutely necessary to save her life. Her mother was sick at home, but her father, not a Christian, was present. The surgeon said to the brave little girl: "My dear, a light operation is necessary, and before I do that, I must put you to sleep." After the nurse had dressed her in a little white nightgown, the child said: "I am ready, but if I am going to sleep, I must first say my prayers." Then, she knelt down, clasped her tiny hands, and prayed: "O Jesus, you know where I am and that Mamma is sick at home. Bless my Daddy, my Sunday school teacher, this doctor, and everybody, for Jesus' sake. Amen." This was too much for the father. He excused himself, and going to an empty room, he knelt and surrendered his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. The !!teat surgeon said: "I hadn't prayed for thirty years, but that night I went to my knees and begged for mercy." How important it is for us to train our children in the things of the Word of God, and show them by our own examples of faith, the power that is wrought through prayer in Jesus' name. PRAYER He who has charge of planets Is mindful still of me; Though I am weak and sinful, He heeds my faintest plea. Fr~m scenes of radiant splendor He notes one crimson drop Of my heart's lonely bleeding; The choiring angels stop And gaze, all lost in wonder, As He, the undefiled, Stoops low in love to succour His sinful, suffering child. -Martha Snell Nicholson ._~CLIP OUT ..... (SELECTED GEMS ON THE THEME OF PRAYER)

Two young men were discussing the account of the resur– rection of the Lord Jesus Christ. They agreed that such a thing was impossible. Seeing an old Christian gentleman approaching them, one of them scornfully approached him with the remark, "Tell us, why are you so sure that Jesus rose from the dead?" Said the saint of God with a smile of faith and hope of expectancy, "Well, for one thing, I was just talk· ing with Him this morning!" * * * A well-known nerve specialist has recently declared: "As one whose whole life has been concerned with the sufferings of the mind, I would state that of all the hygienic measures to counteract disturbed sleep, depression of spirits, and all the miserable sequels of a distressed mind, I would give the first place undoubtedly to the simple habit of prayer." * * * \..--'" Prayer ascends the highest that comes from the lowest depth.s n f the human heart. * * • "When thou prayest rather let thy heart be without words, than thy words without heart. Prayer will make a man cease from sin, or sin will entice a man to cease from prayer. The spirit of prayer is more precious than treasures of gold and silver. Pray often; for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan." BUNYAN * * * "/ a.rn so busy today, that I cannot afford to spend less than four hours in prayer." JOHN WESLEY * * * A little deaf girl was once asked by a lady, who wrote the queotion on a slate: "What is prayer?" The little girl took the chalk and wrote the reply: "Prayer is the wish of the heart."
