Ice rates reviewed in budget report
The parks and recreation department noted in a report to council that Russell Township is still below the average with its ice rates compared to other communities in Prescott-Russell and to municipalities of similar size elsewhere in Eastern Ontario. A five-per cent increase in the ice rates could mean $15,000 more in user fee rev- enue from the arenas. That would help keep the municipal portion of the arena operation and maintenance budget at its current level. Otherwise the 2014 budget would either have to increase the municipal levy, through a further increase in the prop- erty tax rate, to cover the extra cost to the
township to maintain the arenas. Or else township administration and council would have to find ways to cut back on other pro- grams, services, or project proposals to make up the difference. If the final budget approval leaves the five-
per cent ice rate increase intact, it would not take effect until September 2014. This would allow sports clubs and other arena users a chance to adjust their own budget plans for the 2014-2015 season.

À St-Isidore, la cérémonie du jour du Souvenir s›est tenue dans un tourbillon de flo- cons de neige, le vendredi 8 novembre à Saint-Isidore. Devant le cénotaphe sur la rue de l›Aréna, les élèves de l›École élémentaire St-Isidore, leurs enseignants, des cadets, des membres de la Légion canadienne d›Alexandria, une trentaine de citoyens ainsi que différents dignitaires étaient présents.
