Community Engagement Activities
This year, our colleagues sought active community engagement through targeted events that improve environmental sustainability, promote health, and support youth in our communities. Our team members volunteered at some of the following organizations:
Education Our SVP, Director of Energy and Sustainability volunteers in local NYC and national universities to teach students about the interdisciplinary nature of environmental sustainability, economics, data science, engineering, and policy to prepare them to make the technical and economic case for the development and implementation of these initiatives as they prepare for their careers. University lectures and engagement in 2025 include Columbia University, Cornell University, City University of New York (CUNY), Duke University, Fordham University, New York University, Stanford University, University of Virginia, and Yale University.
Project Helping ESRT teamed up with Project Helping, a mental health wellness nonprofit that focuses partnerships and volunteer opportunities for the advocacy of mental well-being. Together, Project Helping and ESRT colleagues assembled “Kynd Kits” for Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the largest integrated healthcare system in the United States. Kynd Kits contain travel-sized personal care items, comfort and stress-relief items, hospital safe snacks, and personalized notes of encouragement. These kits were distributed to Veterans within the VHA network to provide support and care during extended hospital stays.
Red Cross Sound the Alarm ESRT joined efforts with the American Red
Cross, a nonprofit humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and preparedness education across the United States, to support their Sound the Alarm campaign. Through this initiative, colleagues visited local New York homes to ensure fire alarms operate effectively and to educate residents on fire safety, preparedness, and prevention.
