The Senior Men’s Golf Organization (SMGO) invites all ANCC members age 55+ to participate in our men's senior golf program in 2019. This is organized play that develops new friendships and enhances your enjoyment of golf and Club facilities. The SMGO program features an ABCD scramble at 8:30 AM typically on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the ARL course commencing in April through October. Other tournaments may be scheduled when play dates are available. All ANCC members are welcome regardless of their handicap. If you were a member in 2018, your membership will automatically be renewed for 2019. A sign-up list for new members will be posted in the ARL Golf Shop by December 1, 2018. If you do not want to participate in 2019, please indicate your decision to be deleted on the sign-up sheet at the ARL Golf Shop or you may contact Peter Junghans at or (703) 836-7966. New members who may be leaving the area for the winter are encouraged to sign-up prior to departing. The 2019 dues level will be set prior to the opening of the season. Dues cover the cost of lunch in the Clubhouse after each of the 14 ABCD deal in town!! Standard cart fees are charged for each event in which a member participates. A $10 entry fee for the prize pool and the cost of coffee and pastries available at each ABCD Scramble is collected at check-in for each scramble.

As part of our ongoing effort to improve the quality and consistency of our golf course playing conditions, the Golf & Green Committee approved the following action at the business meeting held on 8 November 2011. Winter play course set up at ANCC will commence on or about Saturday, 1 December and remain in effect until approximately Friday, 1 March each season. During this time only 2 sets of tee markers will be placed on each hole – 1 forward and 1 back. In many cases, artificial mats will be placed on the teeing ground. When this option is utilized, all players should play from the mat and refrain from use of the grass teeing ground. We believe that this course of action will minimize winter damage, promote faster recovery and provide superior playing conditions during the golf season, generally March through October. The Committee thanks you for your support. On Wednesday, 7 November, CWGO celebrated another successful season with our End of Year Dinner and elected Our 2019 Board. Emily McGee will serve as Vice President; Rebecca Gansca will lead Membership; Sherrie Balko will join Special Events as a Co-Chair; and Amy DeWitt will serve a second term as Treasurer. A huge thank you to our departing board members Bev Winston, Tina Gwilliam, and Cheryl Watson. Congratulations to the Most Improved Golfers of 2018, Shara Fordyce and Cheryl Gallagher. Shara reduced her handicap from 22.4 to 16.8 GHIN. Cheryl reduced hers from 33.1 to 29.6 GHIN. Our Ringer winners are as follows: ARL Red: 1st G-Bev Winston, 1st N-Leah Little. White: 1st G-Shelley Savage, 1st N-Amy DeWitt. Blue: 1st G-ER Anderson, 1st N-Becky Harper. FFX: Red: 1st G-ER Anderson, 1st N-Gisela Leon. White: 1st G-Leah Little, 1st N-Becky Harper. Blue: 1st G-Lisa Moore, 1st N-Dianne Forburger. Stay tuned: Off-season activities are being planned so that we may stay connected during the winter months. CWGO CAREER WOMEN’S GOLF ORGANIZATION

Don’t miss out on a great experience of playing local country club courses. If you are 55+, you can become a member of the NVRMGA and do just that! ANCC will field two separate teams (ARL & FFX). Both teams are always looking for new players. The ANCC ARL team was the league champion in 2010, 2015, and 2017, and the ANCC ARL and ANCC FFX teams were co-champions in 2011. In 2018, the ARL team finished 3rd in the Eastern Region and 4th in the League while FFX finished 3rd in the Central Region and tied for 7th in the League. Both teams are looking forward to successful seasons in 2019. The 2019 ANCC teams will be put together within the next few months and eligible ANCC members can sign up for either team. Visit the teams' web pages on the ANCC website before Thursday, 31 January for the ARL Team and by Friday, 1 March for the FFX Team and you will find signup instructions. Click here for Arlington team information and here for Fairfax team information. How does NVRMGA work? The League will again be organized into three geographic regions in 2019 - Eastern, Central and Western, with ARL in the Eastern and FFX in the Central. We will play each of 10 opposing teams twice, once at home and once away between early April and late September. The League Champion will be determined by a four-team playoff (The 3 region champions and 1 wildcard team) during the first two weeks of October. Play is on Thursdays, teeing off at 8:45 AM. As a team member, you will be assigned to play in at least five matches and have the opportunity to volunteer as a substitute for matches to which you are not assigned. These are handicap matches, so no need to worry about your current handicap index. The Team Captains for 2019 are: Mike Downs (703) 317-1822, Nick Fritz (703) 553-4435, and Jim Schroeder (703) 237-1939 for the ANCC Arlington team; Verne Wattawa (703) 433-9279, Mike Golembieski 703-643-1444, and Dennis Bruns 703-534-7913 for the ANCC Fairfax team. Sign up as soon as possible. 2019 Northern Virginia Retired Men’s Golf Association (NVRMGA)

From our lady members running a great casual play program: The ANCC Ladies Open Tennis tradition is over 50 years old. We are a group of women who love to play tennis and we play twice every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. Our sessions are fun, a little competitive and stress-free. Our group provides the maximum freedom in balancing life on and off the court. If a player is unable to play due to vacation, work or another commitment, she does not have to find a substitute. Our group offers the flexibility of playing with less than 4 players and more than 4 players, so if you show up you will always play. For more information, please contact the Tennis Pro Shop.
