Painting with Soap and Bubbles The campers will create three works of art this week, all incorporating soap and/or bubbles in unique ways to explore alternative solutions to traditional drawing and painting practices. For the first artwork, they will craft a still life drawing using pastels and a bar of soap to create a resist. In the second piece, campers will focus on rhythm, producing an action painting with dish soap and unconventional tools, incorporating discussions on contrast and rhythm. Lastly, for the third painting, students will unleash their creativity by painting with bubbles through a straw, adding additional elements with pastels to achieve the appearance of an underwater painting. In-line Skating 101 The goal of this course is for campers to utilize in-line skating as a means to stay fit and active both during camp and throughout their lives. Teaching elementary campers a lifetime fitness activity can be challenging due to skill and comprehension levels at this age. However, like riding a bike, once campers learn how to skate, they are likely to retain this skill. Introducing children to in- line skating at a young age instills confidence and imparts the knowledge that it is a healthy fitness activity they can engage in throughout their lives. Our aim is to provide students with various options to maintain fitness and health, with in-line skating being one of those valuable choices. Cooking-Savory Snacks This class is designed for beginning home chefs seeking to enhance their knowledge of baking classic savory snacks, including quiche, pizza, breadsticks, savory strudel, and more. How Stuff Works Children are naturally curious! In this applied science camp designed for curious kids, our campers will explore how things work. They will discover that the ordinary can seem extraordinary. Throughout the camp, children will explore everyday environments and unveil the workings of various objects and machines in those surroundings. Recycled Jellies Campers will explore the anatomy of one of nature’s most fascinating creatures, the jellyfish. Found in every ocean worldwide, jellyfish are considered the oldest multi-organ animals. With tentacles measuring up to 120 feet long, they rank as the longest animals in the world. Their unique anatomy and living habits make them one of the most exciting creatures to observe. Due to their classification as non-fish, many aquariums and scientists now use the terms “jellies” or “sea jellies” for more accuracy. Campers can create their own sparkling, colorful models to learn about jellies, using some of the very materials that threaten their habitat—plastic bags and fast food containers. Baseball/Kickball Campers will concentrate on learning baseball positions, hitting/kicking, playing each position in the field, and mastering techniques of base running, pitching, and catching balls, among other skills. They will engage in skill practice sessions and games to acquire proper baseball techniques. Additionally, there will be a home run competition, skills competition, and games of kickball and baseball to enhance the overall learning experience. Cooking-Sweet Snacks Make it sweet!
