Five feeders are installed at Russell Public School, MacDougall Park and the library’s Children’s Fantasy Reading Garden. “We also want to raise awareness,” Hynes-Ion explained, “and help people choose plants that hummingbirds like.” The girls said those plants include Bee Balm, Butter"y Bush, Bleeding Heart, Yel- low Cashew Nut Tree, and others. “Hum- mingbirds like any type of tubular "owers in bright colours,” said Milinkovich. RUSSELL l Three enterprising girls from Russell Public School have initiated a proj- ect of buying, installing and maintaining hummingbird feeders with stands in the village of Russell. Alexandra Milinkovich, Sierra Hynes-Ion and Ruby Budel wanted to do something special for nature. Valoris Christmas Elves return They’re back! The Valoris Christmas Elves Campaign is on again. The regional social service agency has helpedmake Christmas a little cheerier for children and youth in Prescott-Russell for more than two decades with its annual Christmas Elves project. Christmas trees are set up in every Valoris service centre throughout Prescott and Russell counties and also in several businesses that help support the campaign. Re- sidents are invited to choose an ornament from one of the trees, buy a gift for the child or teen whose #rst name goes with the ornament, and bring that gift back to the local Valoris service centre for deposit and later placement with the child. Gifts can be actual items, gift certi#cates or even a cash donation. Several businesses will also have Christmas Elves gift depot boxes set up on their premises to accept gifts for later distribution. For more information on the campaign, those interested can phone Guylaine Lapointe, campaign coordinator, 1-800-675-6168, extension 4566.
