Help! Olivia, Fifteen years ago, my husband didn’t just leave me, he erased me. I was the breadwinner. I built the life. And somehow, by the time he was finished rewriting the story, he was the wealthy one and I was the gold digger. He told neighbors, friends, anyone who would listen. People believed him. While I was still trying to un- derstand what was happening, he emptied accounts, sold proper- ties, and divorced me without my knowledge. I lost everything. In- cluding my home. I even consulted an attorney, hoping there was some version of justice I had missed. I was told that what he did falls under civil mat- ters because we were married, not criminal. That didn’t calm me. It made me angrier. I won’t pretend I handled it with grace. I’ve done things I’m not ashamed of, including breaking into the house I paid for. There are other things I’m quietly proud of, but I’ll leave those unsaid. Here’s the problem. It’s been over 15 years, and I am still angry. Not in a passing way. In a steady, simmering, ever-present way. I re- play what he did. I imagine what I could still do. People tell me to move on. I tried therapy. It was expensive and, frankly, unhelpful. Being told I’m “lucky to be alive” didn’t make me feel better. It made me feel dis- missed. So I stopped going. I don’t want peace. I want jus-

tice. Or at least some- thing that feels like it. So I’ll ask you directly. How do I get revenge? — Still Standing, But Not Over It

Everyone knows a secret, told in the most sa- cred confidence, shared only to a best friend, is an oath that should never be broken. I know that, and yet, in the end, I broke the very prom- ise I made. It was a long time ago, back when I was a freshman, living away from home, in a dif- ferent state, bewildered by the magnitude of adulthood, that I met someone who was soon to become my roommate, and then, after grad- uation, my apartment mate. I had best friends before, of course, but this was different. This was my first adult best friend. She was beautiful, kind, soft spoken, and loyal. I was adventurous, rowdy, and bursting with independence. That we became friends was unlikely, but true, and the gears were in motion that proved later, to be greater than both of us, and more important than we would ever know at that time. It must have been a year or so later, when we were mired in studies, spending sleepless nights worrying about grades and things that people worry about at that age, that she sat me down to tell me a story that has stayed with me until

this day. She was an unwed mother, abandoned by her parents, shamed by the community in which she lived, sent away by herself, to bear a child, a daughter. She couldn’t have raised the child, without support, without money, without housing, so she was forced by circumstances to give the baby up for adoption. She said it was the most devastating day of her life. As she spoke, I remember watching her care- fully choose her words, as though each one car- ried a weight too heavy to be set down. There were long pauses between sentences. At times she stared out the window rather than at me, as if she were seeing another place and anoth- er time. I could hear the sorrow in her voice, but there was something else there too—a grief that had never been allowed to heal because it had never been acknowledged. For years she had carried that burden alone. She shared that with me, and made me prom- ise to keep her confidence. I did. For five decades I did not utter a word, not to anyone, not even to her. Her need to unbur-

den herself did not need me to pry, and somehow, with loans, she made it through school and was proud of herself, despite the fact that she graduated without her family there to witness her success. I often thought about that graduation day. While other students cel- ebrated with parents and siblings, posing for photo- graphs and accepting bou- quets of flowers, she stood largely alone. Yet she smiled. She had survived circumstances that would have crushed many people, and she had earned every bit of that diploma. A year after we roomed together in an apartment in New York, I married and moved away. Life, as it often does, carried us in dif-

ferent directions. Careers, families, obligations, and miles accumulated between us. We ex- changed letters for a while, then holiday cards, and eventually even those became sporadic. Still, whenever we reconnected, it felt as though no time had passed. True friendships have a way of preserving themselves through long silences. When we reunited years later, she had been married, cheated on, and left by her husband. But that wasn’t the worst of it. She had fallen ill to a debilitating disease, and had to be moved into a care facility. The only good that came out of her marriage were two daughters, born a few years apart. Her life was not easy, but she car- ried on with grace and dignity, still keeping fast her secret. I visited her whenever I could. Though her body grew weaker, her spirit never seemed di- minished. She remained thoughtful and gener- ous, asking more questions about others than she ever answered about herself. Occasional- ly I wondered whether she thought about the daughter she had lost. I suspect she did every

day. A mother never forgets her child. Yet she rarely spoke of her. The secret remained tucked away in a quiet corner of her heart. She died two years ago, and I was notified by her daughters after they found my name and phone number among her possessions. The news hit me harder than I expected. Even though her illness had prepared everyone for the in- evitable, I felt as though a chapter of my own life had closed. With her passing went shared mem- ories, inside jokes, youthful ad- ventures, and all the experiences that only the two of us fully un- derstood. I attended her memo- rial service and listened as others spoke of her kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. They described the woman they knew. I sat silently, carrying the story they did not. I don’t know what possessed me, but all I can attribute it to was her final wish from her grave, that her adopted daughter was located. Her need to be certain she was all right. That she was in good health and didn’t need anything. So, I did what I thought was right, and for the first time in my life, revealed a secret, sworn to me in secrecy, to her now-adult daughters. I asked them if they might want to try to locate their sister, even though I had little information to help them. Their response sur- prised me. There was no anger, no shock, no judgment. Instead, there was compassion. They immedi- ately wanted to know more about her. They wanted to know where she was, how she was doing, and whether she had lived a happy life. In that moment, I felt certain I had done the right thing. I never knew what happened after that, until two nights ago,

bled to have been a part of the be- ginning of healing for this woman. This was a secret needed to be told. For what it’s worth, I am a firm believer that destiny puts us where we need to be, when we need to be there. Sometimes we are entrusted with a story not because it belongs to us, but because one day we may be called upon to carry it across a bridge of years and place it gently into the hands of someone who has been waiting for it all along. Perhaps that was my role in this story. Perhaps that was why our paths crossed all those years ago.

when I received an email from one of them, and honestly, I can say it was heaven-sent. They joined an- cestry.com and eventually found their sister, who, as it turns out, had no information about her mother, my sweet friend, because it had been a closed adoption. She told them for her entire life she thought her mother didn’t want her, and felt discarded, and unworthy of being loved, when nothing was further from the truth. Reading those words brought tears to my eyes. For fifty years, two separate stories had exist- ed in parallel. On one side was a mother who never stopped loving the daughter she could not keep. On the other was a daughter who spent a lifetime believing she had been abandoned. Neither knew the truth of the other’s heart. The tragedy of that realization is diffi- cult to describe.

Yet there was also something beautiful in it. After decades of misunderstanding, the truth had finally found its way into the light. My friend was no longer alive to tell her daughter how much she had loved her, but perhaps the people who knew her could help fill in those missing pieces. She is going to contact me soon, she said, and ask that I can tell her all about the woman who gave birth to her. It will be my pleasure. I will tell her about the courage it took for her mother to endure what she did. I will tell her about her intelligence, her kindness, and her quiet strength. I will tell her that not once, in all the years I knew her, did she speak of her daughter without love in her eyes. I will tell her that she was wanted, cherished, and remembered.

If so, I am grateful.

T here are artists whose work you look at — and artists whose work you enter. Mauro Bergonzoli belongs unmistakably to the latter. His paintings radiate an emotional intensity that feels lived rather than constructed — an energy born of Milan’s visual discipline, the engraving workshop of his childhood, and a decade spent mastering immediacy inside the world of advertising. Today, as he unveils Dolce Vita in Palm Beach, his palette is newly charged. The lines sharpen, the color deepens, the light turns inward. Bergonzoli paints with a form of emotional clarity that collapses joy, memory, sensuality and rigor into a single gesture. This conversation reveals the artist behind the radiance. Origins You were born in Milan, a city saturated with images and design. What did this city imprint on

you before you even knew you would become an artist? I’ve always felt I was born an artist — I began drawing before I could speak. Growing up in central Milan meant being surrounded by beauty, fashion, architecture, and culture; all of it shaped me continuously. The city trained my eye to notice tiny details, the kind most people overlook. Those observations still find their way into my paintings today. Your father ran an engraving workshop. How did that early contact with tools, materials, and precision shape your visual language? Engraving taught me discipline and respect for the line. The materials were expensive — there was no room for error. I learned to work slowly, calmly, with a steady hand. Later, in comics, illustration and advertising, this became a language: I skipped the pencil stage and went straight to ink. The influence

of freehand engraving on silver is especially visible in my Venetian works.

What is the first image — or the first scene — you can look back on now and say: “that’s where it all began”? My family didn’t have money, and gifts were rare. I was born on Christmas Eve, and on my second birth- day my father drew Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse directly on the wall next to my bed. I stared at them for hours, copying every line. That’s where it all began.

Rabbi Curt Landry’s Prophetic Vision & Fruitful Impact in Israel

Rabbi Curt Landry and Curt Landry Ministries built their connection to Israel through bold action, humanitarian outreach, and steadfast covenant relationship—not just words. What began in prayer became a God-led mission of restoration, impacting the land and people of Israel through efforts that continue creating lasting fruit for generations. These projects reflected a core principle that still defines Curt Landry Ministries today: faith must produce tangible action. Aliyah to Opened Doors Over the years, the ministry’s consistent support for Israel opened doors to trusted relationships with Israeli leaders and organizations. Rabbi Curt recounts meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu in 2004 while Netanyahu was serving as Israel’s Finance Minister. Together, they discussed a humanitarian initiative that would provide more than $20 million in aid to Israel. These covenant relationships helped launch powerful restoration efforts across Israel. When leaders from a kibbutz in the Galilee approached Rabbi Curt with a vision to plant olive trees in desert regions, the ministry helped turn that vision into reality. More than an agricultural project, it became a prophetic act of restoration— bringing economic blessing, renewing the land, and reflecting the covenant promise of Romans 11 and the olive tree of Israel.

The ministry’s impact continued to grow through humanitarian outreach, restoration projects, and long-term investments in the land and people of Israel.
