Local health authorities have urged residents to stay home whenever pos- sible as the region reached almost 700 active COVID-19 cases after the weekend. The weekend numbers were released a day before the provincial government announced a state of emergency for 28 days. Under the changes, outdoor organized public gatherings and social gatherings were restricted to a limit of five people with limited exceptions. All non-essential retail stores, such as hardware stores, alcohol retailers, and those offering curbside pickup or delivery, had hours restricted to between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. The western areas of Prescott and Rus- sell had been hit the hardest in recent days.
