At Cathedral School for Boys, we provide an excellent education at the elementary level. Our commitment to intellectual inquiry and rigor allows boys to experiment, challenge themselves, succeed, and at times, fail in a safe environment. Cathedral boys think deeply about things that matter. Each student engages in a comprehensive study of English, math, science, social studies, history, world languages, P.E., and the arts, taught by talented, experienced, and committed teachers who are experts in their fields. Learning at Cathedral extends beyond the classroom. Our central location within the city allows us to step beyond the School grounds for field trips and service at all grade levels. Outdoor Education takes fourth-through sixth-grade boys outside the city where they push themselves physically and live in nature. In the Upper School, the boys participate in a week of “Intersession,” in which they explore classes such as “Entertainment, Production, & Podcasts,” “African American History & Culture,” or “An Introduction to our Legal System.” Service is woven through the entire Cathedral experience. It is a particular focus of the seventh grade when boys spend the year working with a school or nearby organization. While working with Cathedral’s partners, boys develop long-term relationships. Boys purposefully contribute and humbly learn from our neighbors. In the seventh or eighth grade, as part of our world language program, boys spend over a week in a Spanish- or Mandarin-speaking country, using their language skills to serve and learn from the communities with whom they are staying. In the eighth grade, each boy delivers a Chapel Talk in which he speaks about a meaningful life-lesson. Cathedral boys graduate prepared to be the leaders that our world needs now.
