o In-running nip points o Rotating equipment/tools o Flying chips or sparks o Belts or gears o Parts that impact or shear
• Guarding Principles
o Prevent contact between hazardous moving parts and body or clothing o Secure guard: not easily removed o Protect from objects falling into machinery o No new hazards: sharp/rough edges o No interference with job/comfort/speed o Allow safe lubrication: without removing guards if possible o Barrier is a permanent part of machine o Preferable over other types o Barrier may be adjusted for variable operations o Protective Shields provide protection from flying particles or fluids

EMPLOYEES:
• Understand and follow safety requirements • Use the correct equipment and tools for the job • Never operate equipment or tools without guards • Inform the chief engineer and the general manager when equipment has broken or defeated guards. • Dress for the exposure present by tying up hair, wearing short sleeves, removing watches, necklaces, earrings and other loose jewelry. • Request assistance if you are uncertain of the machine guarding or PPE required for the job. INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE: • Monthly inspections will be conducted of all mechanical equipment to ensure proper guards are in place and function as designed. The inspection will include all equipment including fived and portable tools used within the Engineering and Food & Beverage departments. • Original guards should never be removed from equipment. • Any inspections that identify equipment with removed guards, defeated safety devices, or other items which could potentially result in injury and/or damage shall require that the equipment be removed from service immediately.
