Calypso condamné à payer 125 000 $

Huit chefs d’accusation avaient été enre- gistrés par leministère de l’Environnement et de l’Action en matière de changement climatique de l’Ontario, mais six de ces huit chefs avaient été abandonnés par la Cou- ronne. Les dirigeants du parc aquatique ont accepté de payer les dommages aux victimes dans une entente hors cours. Depuis 2012, Calypso amis en place plu- sieurs mesures de sécurité afin d’éviter que de tels incidents ne se reproduisent. « Bien que l’incident soit regrettable, heureusement personne n’a été blessé, a indiqué l’avo- cat de Calypso, Me Lawrence Greenspon. Aucun autre incident de la sorte n’a eu lieu au cours des trois dernières années. » Pour le propriétaire des lieux, Guy Drouin, il est clair que Calypso continuera de respecter ses obligations au chapitre de la sécurité. L’entreprise devra débourser 100 000 $ pour avoir contrevenu à la loi de l’Ontario et 25 000 $ pour une amende compensatoire pour les victimes.
Le parc aquatique Calypso, à Limoges, vient d’être condamné à verser 125 000 $ aux victimes qui avaient été incommodées par un déversement de contaminants dans sa piscine à vagues. On se souvient que le 7 août 2012, une fuite de chlorure s’était produite dans la pis- cine à vagues du parc. C’est que le système de filtration avait été arrêté pour un entretien régulier. Le lendemain, 8 août, une panne d’électricité d’une durée de 19 secondes avait causé l’alimentation d’une concentration de chlore dans la même piscine à vagues. Le personnel de Calypso avait alors immé- diatement réglé le problème et contacté les ambulanciers. Quatorze enfants avaient été incommodés par les fortes odeurs de chlore et avaient dû être transportés au Centre hospitalier pour enfants de l’est de l’Ontario (CHEO). Ils souffraient de nausées mais avaient pu regagner leur domicile la journée même. It’s not a case of re-starting the process, just finishing up what was started but never com- pleted. Russell Township council has reconfir- med its intention to have the building once known as the Russell Land Registry Office designated as an official heritage building. The building, located at 1122 Concession Street in the Village of Russell, has unofficial recognition from the township that it is a local heritage building but the official process to declare and register the building under the Ontario Heritage Act guidelines was not completed during the previous council admi- nistration. During its June 1 regular session, council reconfirmed the intent for official heri- tage designation of the building and directed administration to resume and complete the official registration process, including getting an official statement of heritage value from a recognized expert and preparing a draft by-law for council to approve at a future meeting. – Gregg Chamberlain RCMP warn about phone scam Residents throughout Ontario are warned to be wary about bogus callers claiming to be with the RCMP Integrated Technological Crime Unit (ITCU). The caller will claim either that an international criminal group has hacked into the homeowner’s computer and is using it to commit crimes or that the homeowner is sending out malware through his or her own computer. The aim of the call is to make the victim worried enough to either accept an offer of a «fine» to avoid a court appearance, or an offer to fix the problem in exchange for a special fee. The RCMP have received several complaints from Ontario residents about this scam. The RCMP do not phone residents to collect fines and do not ask for access to personal computers except during an actual official investigation which would involve on- site cyberforensic investigators. Anyone who receives a call like this should report it to their local police detachment and also the Cana- dian Anti-Fraud Centre at its toll-free number. 1-888-495-8501. – Gregg Chamberlain Heritage building process continues
